Hi Folks,

I don't know what the majority of you does for a living. Maybe you have a job that fulfills you, maybe you submit to 8 hours a day in a boring job to be able to pay your bills, or you have chosen an alternative lifestyle...

As for me, I'm 32 years old and I've been working regularly for the past 8 years. I've completed a degree and two years ago I went to do a postgraduate degree in management.
I've been recently promoted in my job, and even though I'm not paid any fortune, I feel I'm paid a decent amount compared to my coworkers, and to the majority of people my age I know.

But... I'm getting more and more that feeling that I'm wasting my time locked inside 4 walls, looking at a computer screen, living my life in a way society regards as decent and meaningful, except I'm always counting the minutes to the end of the working day, longing for the weekends and for the vacations. And I know that this feeling is not just related to this specific job, but I'm almost certain I would feel it anyway having another corporate job.

I would like to do something with a real meaning to society and to our world and planet. Are you familiar with the concept of Social Business, as described by Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank in Bangladesh and Nobel Peace Prize winner?

Anyway, I just want to read your thoughts, opinions, experiences, etc. Something to fill me with the courage to send it all to hell and take the risk...

Thank you!

Consider yourself fortunate. Much of the world is working for a lot longer in much shittier conditions for a lot less pay. If your position bothers you in some way then I do encourage you to utilize your resources in order to turn some of that negative energy you are feeling into a positive outcome. Good luck, and may the Force be with you. Always.

I TOTALLY relate to what you are expressing. It’s not about the money, it never was and never will be. It’s about expressing and living your heart in freedom and doing something with soul and for the greater good. Life is too precious and it deserves the highest truth we can find in our hearts.

But our society these days trains us since we were at school to look for money, to compete, to be productive, to look for financial profit and we equate that with success and we gain status from this. And it’s hard to escape this silly game because everyone is so involved with it, all the institutions and the whole system is made around these ideas that you start making your life very difficult if you try to escape from this way of thinking because we are so tuned to what everyone thinks and it can be alienating to try and escape the materialistic money focused job.

And ofcourse there are millions of people in real need and without their basics and the last thing we should do is complain but for those fortunate to have a job, and a home, a computer and stupid ipod/iphone, etc.. its not about your basic needs anynmore AT ALL. Most of the stuff we want to buy for our life we do not even need. Its just a pose to make us feel like we are part of some cool fortunate group in the world. Kind of pathetic and annoying to be trapped in this shit when maybe somewhere inside we know that life's true potential is much more than all this.

I want to discover what our true potential really is and I wish that those who have these feelings like the ones you share can create a movement of minds in the world to push the world in a new direction. Highest and purest vision in your heart! Thats the world we want to create. That is the world we should believe in and power up with our energy. And thats the song I want to dance too as well!

Thank you for your replies guys!
And please believe me, I know I am one of the fortunate, because I have a job, health, some money, etc. And I don't know if I'll be able to take this step right away, but I'm sure that in a not distant future I'll start my own project, or join an existing one, whose goal is measured by how much social benefit (real one, not the kind promoted by PR) it creates, instead of how much profit it generates.

the thing is if you feel that doing good for people , like bringing them out of poverty, giving them an education, etc will make you feel better then you are basically just changing who you are serving...either you serve the corporate system or you serve the needy system...both are just systems and function in their own ways...i have worked with yunus in bangladesh and it was just as bad because the mindset of the poor/poverty striken people just did not match with mine...if you are free thinker and intellectually enhanced then i reckon that you continue doing what you are doing and every year take a holiday in a poor or a third world country and rather than feeling bad and guilty about having more than them and as a pity contributing to charity..go live with them and spend your excesses...i was in bihar the poorest state of india and i basically got drunk on homemade hooch, drank beers and then gave them some money and told them "till it lasts it lasts use it wisely" ...no conditions...the thing is that you will leave a system because u dont like what its doing to you and go join another system which you think you will like...in the bargain you will miss the NOW system which you can create for yourself...you can be a part of both the systems. you can drive a ferrari through a village and help the villagers dream bigger or you can plough a field and milk the cow and shrink their dreams.
if you are really interested in Muhammad Yunus, check out http://www.grameencreativelab.com/

my friend is the founder and if it interests you i can connect you to them
and remember:
There are only 6.5billion people in the world, there are 1000+ billionaires , trillion dollar economies , and there is no shortage of money...its just that we want the money to work in a way that suites us not them...by them i mean everyone other than you.

I relate too, but the problem is why you think you work for others., They key is working for you, for seomthing that really you're interested in.

And I think the problem really is to "generate or create", I think many jobs are justa bout administration and management, or selling.

What really fullfills is creating, no mather what but to create. Thats the only way I feel complete.

I recommend reading Naomi Klein's "No Logo" and "Shock Doctrine". Best anti-corporate reads I've found so far!

stick it out dude!!! primarily cos your good at it (just promoted - congrats!! )

save up loads of cash (by any means whatsoever - since anything goes in the corporate world, as long as you don't get caught)!!

early retirement on your privately owned beach side property of your choice with all the time in the world to live your life with meaning!!

It a sign of the times we live in but Cash is the only security in this world!!

Good Luck and God-Speed!!
