i don't like the sterile/digital sound of es2 at all (but the sound imho still isn't as bad as the user interface ) . i've tried making a decent bass once, but wasn't very successful. but iirc disco hooligans has lots of good things to say about es2....

If you add like 5 equalizers
2 overdrive distorters
De-Essers and 13 exciters you can probably get a nice sounding bass, yes?
Or you can use ESM and only add some slight saturation, that also can flatten it a little~
lol....I used to like ESM alot but I dont like that the osciliator is free running and does not reset....neither does the es1 buy on the es2 you can either reset it on the begining of the wave or at the top point of the wave...sure it takes a little more processing but I think its worth it

ES2 has this really plasticky sound that I do dig for some kinds of music. I rarely use it, but I like using that plastic, tight filter modulation, kinda sound.
For example I used it in this track
No heavy processing either, 1 EQ instance into a compressor. That's it.

Well DH, that's one damn good sound anyway!
the only synth i have ever been able to make a good bass with is sylenth
No kiddin, i know the sound of that one is pretty plasticky too but its really warm and powerful.
Good track.
And ES1 makes a terrible snapping noise when i'm trying to make stuff with it, lol

I said I like it dirty, not muddy.

ES1 can be stable. Check the envelopes and the 3 tabs that assign control of the amp.
Look into the EXS 24 sampler patches. There are loads of good sounding saws in there, all sampled so no clicks/snaps there.

Peace out.
this makes me think why didnt I think of using the esx 24 with sampled waves for bass before...who knows...but it sounds awesome...anyways the first note it plays is higher in volume than the rest of the other notes being played any ideas why this is happening...im using the esx 24 by the way

Make sure the notes are the same velocity for a constant level. When you do that, try a kbbb patern with the first bassnote with lower velocity. Then assign velocity to control the amount by which the filter ADSR modulates the filter and the amp level.
Set a positive index amount.
Then dial in a filter cut off frequency that you like.
And that is the base of the standard kbbb pattern.
and sidechain the lows and low mids of the bass to the kick, do you still find yourself using lower velocity on the 2nd bass note? (velocity mapped to filter and vol).
I would try this on my own but i can't hear the difference in my headphones and I don't own anything better...

why compressing 5db or more when with velocity on the volume you can archieve the same effect with zero or less sidechain compression depending the result wanted.
also compressing low end with fast release generate distortion that can come back to audible range depending the amount of compression

i wouldn't use the second one for typical psy bass at all. i think either the sidechain would be brutal enough to make the first bass note inaudible (then why not just delete it?) or it would sound muddy with the kick/bass freq's overlapping. that is unless you played the bass at a higher octave like in some oldschool goa tracks or eq'd the hell out of both your kick and bass, where you'd probably end up with a comparably weak bass sound...
