I may sound really naive here. This is why all of your help would be much appreciated.
What kind of equipment do I need for a pub/dance bar? What are the average prices, and where can I get second hand equipment.

Candy, to start off, you would need a decent sound system: I'm no big expert on speakers, but i can tell you that the price for a decent speaker system for a dance bar would be about 2000 NIS, second hand ofcorse...

infact, there's a place in Netanya called "Hakol Laramkol", they sell tons of second hand gear - speakers, mixers etc'... check it out!

Apart from that, why don't you check this out: http://www.audiolines.com/cgi-bin/dj.cgi?detail=yes&template=database_product_page&exact_match=yes&product=audiolgempak1

it's a really good deal on a Gemini Package: 2 gemini cdj's & mixer... good price imo

Ok , my recomendation for sound system and dj equipement :
first of all the placement of "taklitiya"
dj need to see all the audience from the dj spot ,
yo need two turntables "Technics SL-1200"
two cd-players with pitch like "Pioneer CDJ500mk2"
quality mixer like Vestax pmc17a or more expansive one like pioneer djm ,
dj monitors - (very important) some small and quality speakers for the dj to monitor the mix.
Speakers: for quality sound my advice is to go for JBL EON15a + EON SUBwoofer units , those JBL's have built-in amplifiers with good quality and protection systems.
It may be necessary to insert an eq , crossover and analyzer between mixer and speakers.
For that i recomend the "Klark-Teknic" DN4000,DN6000,DN8000.
Anyway the quality of sound depends very much on speaker placement and room form/accoustics ,
so it's better to ask some sound engineer for doing accoustc measuring in da' place.
Another important point is the "Light System"
"it's like to watch a movie without sound or
to hear the movie's sound without see the picture"
for light equipement check out "Martin" and "VariLight" .

Peace.

i'm no expert but it seems that a computer with winamp and software that compiles wav format 2 mp3, is a MUST. u can make playlists that will b all night long, otherwise u need someone changing CDs all night long.           The Only True Freedom is Freedom From the Heart Desire

CD Players - Pioneer CMX-3000/5000 Or Denon 2600
Mixer - Pioneer DJM-500/600 or even the 300

Speaker choice/placement is very important and best left to a sound professional            "Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience"

sorry to be blunt candi - but this is not the way to condact business, just don`t listen to most peeps here. most of it is non-sense.
you sure don`t need 2 turntabels 2 cdj and some djm 500/600 mixer - a suck ass and expesive mixer i might say so. only the mixer is about 4000 sheks new alot of money.

u need to ask your self some serious questions. before asking what equiptment you want to use. and those Qs should be asked in private:)

until u have answers check this web page
it might help you to relax at work sugababe.
