downloaded the mastered mp3: crystal clear sound, but on my headphones the kick is a tad bit to bright sounding compared to the other elements. will listen on other systems as well but it does sound a bit sharp on sony mdr 7506 cans and these are relatively accurate and not boosted/biased with their highs usually.
anyway: great stuff

nice, thanks for the feedback and comments!
i didn't encode the mp3, and know that can screw with things sometimes (i usually run replaygain after encoding to make sure there are no inter sample peaks which can cause distortion of various kinds). at least you downloaded it and didn't listen to the horrible quality of the streamed version!
maybe ask equilizyme to upload a lossless file instead? i'm always scared when people judge my mastering work on an mp3 file.
on the other hand, it could just be a subjective aesthetic decision made by equilizyme at the mix stage, or me in the mastering, that you don't like? one man's "tad bit to bright sounding" could be another man's "cutting through the mix"?
i think the kick sounds pretty great on my ATCs and HD600s.
having said that, i'm not so au fait with the whole psy trance scene these days, and the overall "sound". maybe you could suggest an artist, track or album in a similar style to this track, that you do like the sound of the kick on?

Great track, reminded me U-Recken. I think all elements are in their place and you can listen to them, not muffled. |
