hey..
when i pull up some freq with an equalizer it gets resonance, the more i pull the more resonance it gets.. is this normal? i guess it is.. but you never know
is there a way of reducing this resonance?
i used cubase sx 1/2, nuendo 1.6, waves eq, and some other... and all do that

take care!

resonance/q and gain are unconnected

gain =

___,-.___ or ____/'\_____

res =

___/\___ or __,-'"""'-.____           http://www.dartrecordings.co.uk/

Just increase the Q factor.

so no way of getting the resonance out, besides increasing Q?

you are probably pushing up the frequencies that are resonating...

instead of eq to push up the frequencies u want to be more audible, try equing to lower the unwanted frequencies.

resonance and q are the same thing!

(well, sort of - not exactly, but consider that they are). ok what my diagrams were tryingto explain is that gain is the 'vertical' - how high your boost is - and res/q is the 'horizontal' - how wide your boost is.

i'll try doing some better pics:

http://www.dartrecordings.co.uk/eq_res1.jpg

see in this one how the gain and q are "unconnected" - that is, the gain is exactly the same both times (4db), but the q is different. notice a low Q produces a very wide, gently sloping bell shape, and a high Q produces a very thin, steeply sloping pointy shape.

http://www.dartrecordings.co.uk/eq_res1.jpg

again, "unconnected" - on the left, we have a very high gain but with a very low Q, and on the right we have a very low gain with a very high Q.

I might also recommend you read ths-

its my eq tutorial which explains pretty much everything i've ever learnt about eqing in the last 5 years           http://www.dartrecordings.co.uk/

thanks, but what i was trying to find out was if there is a way of getting rid of the resonance..
i'm aware of what the Q and the gain are... hehe
anyway thanks for all your effort, is nice to see that some people care..
i've read your tutorial, it's very nice..
and once again it's nice to have people like you around here! thanks!
this is how we are ought to see how sound really is..
