In the process of getting a better sound for my final mix, I came across these websites that touch on room equalization and monitor level set up. Don't know if this has been posted before, but a quick search showed nothing.

This one goes into detail and theory of level gain...

http://www.digido.com/level-practices-part-2-includes-the-k-system.html

And this one is a free download wizard (must register though) that helps calculate and calibrate for room acoustics using a VU meter.

If the room i'm using has a natural drop off at 80hz and 250hz, do I compensate by boosting at those frequencies at my amp and not in the mix?           http://soundcloud.com/short-circuit

It is a good idea to eq your monitoring setup.

There are a lot of programs which will do the job for you. Personly i put a Waves Q10 EQ on my masterchannel.

Then make a sinesweep from 30hz till 300hz and play with the eq settings till you have the most linear sweep.
But remember: Never boost any frequencies, just cut the frequencies that stand out with a very small Q size.           http://soundcloud.com/seamoon

with a sine sweep what you hear as a small dip, can be 20 db deep.. maybe it can help but sine sweep are far from ideal and yes it have been discussed many times but the search is usless

i think equing can be good when you already have something that is almost flat , in a +/- 10 db monitoring environement that is not uncomon in small room it would need so much eq that i m not sure it s good..
