thats a tougher question than yuo would probably think
my advice is to check out some ear training courses on the net and start checking out some sort of accoustic treatment in your studio
also a well spec'ed pair of monitors is a must as well
i know its not a direct answer but usually its thew biggest part of the problem
also check out the Levels thread theres some pretty good and diverse info in their
EQ.......it really depends on what you hear and how you tweek it so a good ide would be to lert someone else play with one of your track and hear how they would do it differently |

ok had a good listen too your tune....pretty banging bro but it seem your having trouble with the mids
might be worth checking out some different monitors as they seem to be throwing your ear off |

hm, eqing is something that is ideally done as-you-go, each time you add a new sound.
your first tune sounds great, excellent bass and a stellar groove built quickly, but around the 3:00 mark or so it's really starting to be crowded.
couple things i can think of right off the bat:
1) that snare is way damp. needs more punch. kill the reverb on it if you have it drenched, otherwise, perhaps a noise gate, etc. this isn't "EQing" per se, but it is relevant because it is cleaning up the harmonic spectrum.
2) is your reverb hipassed on a bus channel? that will help keep the spectrum a little cleaner.
3) your bass sounds great, like i said, well done - but it has a lot of hi frequency harmonics that i'm not sure need to be there. you have a couple options: at 2:00 and 4:38 there is a lot of breathing room for the bass and it can stay as is. but you could add a lopass filter for the 3:00 area, where the hi part of the bass is obscured anyways and the low throb the important groove work anyway.
4) that hypersaw lead that comes in at around 2:35 or so takes up a lot of room. see if you can cut some frequencies without killing the sound, or even hipass it some (more), whatever works.
4) again, really, that saw lead takes up a LOT of room lol.
the second tune, same deal with the bass really.
the hihats sound wierd on both, but i can't tell what it is. what have you processed them with, and where are they cut, etc??
hope some of that helps.
