I was wondering, how important is it to add eq's to a track, and what are the frequencies to be boosted ?

Like for Bass.. is the a certain frequency range it sounds good in... or standard frequency settings? I am working in Cubase, Also how is it possible to add "phatness" or "richer" sound quality to diffrent sounds... Do I add a Puncher?
Any tips would be great because Im still rusty on the production , which I think is quite important in the outcome of a track. A friend of mine told me to maximize all the sounds, I have heard quite a few artists and I know its all in effects to maximize sounds... but which ones do I use? any recomendations? Thanks a lot in advance...

IT is pretty important to add EQ to a track - actually - it' better to EQ alost every sound there - so they will al fit perfectly -

EQ bass is allways about BAss and kick not to go over eachother and do clips - it's all about making them both sound as flat s you can by Equing...

Maximiing the whole track is basicly made to add some loudness to the track which makes a perfect finilizer.

Jeto,

EQing is a lot of practice.. Generally speaking EQing is very important for sound engeneering but in the same breath too much of it can destroy a pretty good sound.. Many sound engeneers prefer almost not apply any EQ saying that they want to hear the parts in their 'flatness' and so it's more 'natural'. Anyways, in my opinion EQ should b used quite a lot in trance music due to the fact many times u use layering sounds upon other sounds + there is a demand for PHAT music...

When I EQ I listen to the sound I do the EQ to and measure it in two aspects

1. The sound itself - where are the weak points, where are the strong points and what role I give the sound in my track

2. The sound and it's relation with the rest of the track.. Are there frequencies that are similar with other sounds? What freq's are these?

After I finish that the pic is clear.. I want to ENHANCE the levels of the freq's that are dominant in my sound and to MINIMALIZE the freq's that are not important so they wont disturb other sounds ( anyway I dont need them so I can skip them ). Many times I use the Low Cut feature on certain sounds are not Kik & Bass to avoid the collision between them and the groove.

About frequencies, I advise u to go to the WaveLab there it has the Statistics Analyzer or something like that and check your sounds through that... That way u will find out the best way how numbers sound in reality

Good luck

IMHO and really HO since i dont do music for yaers already the EQ is what makes the difference for average listener between him saying its a good track and its a ROCkING track.
sometimes u listen to a track it has everyting there are good ideas original its all goes well ups downs boom squiks BUT its flat its doesnt have the energy to lift u and i totaly agree with yulik about that i think BLT=Yulik and the Quirk team at the same hand are the best EQ masters. and for me where i seen the real difference of that after ppl sending me their tracks each day(there was times wan i was alive:)) after listening to old Triac work and their now work after learning from BLT their ideas didnt change alot since than and no reason for that it was good and still good but the sound now lifts u it make u INALLY move after all those years Ilan u made it(and of course Morax)
