i love learning by myself!
use an analayzer and start looking at your leads & parts. look for too much low end or not enough high end. its usually the problems . also look for frequeincies that jump too much above the rest.
with time youll learn to create your parts so youll dont need EQ at all.

imagine that each sound must have its own space in the frequency spectrum dont let them to fight for space

less is more!!

if you feel your tracks have everything needed and yet are still missing something, you've either got too much or the elements need to be better.

less is definitely more.

Try to use EQ sparingly and get the sounds right at the source (ie with the synth settings).

Ideally your sounds should be sweet/aggressive/cool enough to stand alone. Treat each one like a gem and give it room in the mix to really shine.

Trying to fit too much into a song will give it a bloated feeling and leave you wondering what's missing. What's missing is empty space.

Of course without listening to your music, we're just guessing here.

Upload a high-quality mp3 (maybe just a section if you feel uncomfortable putting a whole song up) and ask us for feedback on the mixing.

peace
