Hello, sorry if I posted this incorrectly (let me know and I'll fix it next time). I have been producing for a little while, less than a year, and my real true absolute passion is psy trance. It causes me to move like i've never moved and felt any music. Ive read tons on this forum, over and over, about using eq and compression and changing size/velocity of notes, etc... to get that unique bass. I have worked loooong and haaard....It's something i'm not getting yet. I understand waht compression does, and what EQ does. But where does compression come into play in the sound of the bassline. Should the sidechain eq be set to a low frequency or high? What is trying to be accomplished with both the EQ and compression in basslines???? PLEASE help me out, this is my passion and i'm way too eager to get started in the psy world. Thanks a lot
Geoff

I´m not any master lol, but here´s my view of it...
U put a compressor in the bassline to get the notes with more definition and more power, by controling the attack and decay to get the "volume envelope" of the sound shaped like you want...and also to get the sound more stable and always at the same level.
U use a side chain in bass with kick controlling if you want the volume of the bass to be attenuated once the kick hits, and to return once the kick goes away. The sidechain should be set to "hear" the med/hi freq of the kick (the click) since these are the ones with the fastest response.
