generally eq should come first, as mentioned by cr1st0 you only want to compress the frequs you really want. Once you have compressed it after the first eq depending on the endresult it is perfectly ok to use another eq...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

Agree with Upavas - I generally EQ before I compress, but not always.

EQ I use to affect the frequency content of a sound

Compression I use to affect the dynamics of a sound

But since the two are related, EQing a sound affects the dynamics and compressing a sound affects the frequencies (by making some louder and vice versa).

It's like asking "should I put on my left shoe first or my right shoe?"

One comment that floats around on occasion is that if you compress after you EQ then you will undo the EQ settings - this is not true! Compression is not just a simple setting on a sound and can drastically alter the perceived frequency content. So EQ then compress, or compress and then EQ - do whatever is necessary to achieve the results you are after.

You do have specific results in mind before compressing, right?

Hang on there, shouldn't it be eqing a sound affects it's frequencies, compressing a sound affects the dynamic range?           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

mainly yes, but i think he meant that its ALSO EQ affecting Dynamics (wich is true) and compressing affects Freq's (wich is also true..)

If you use compressor as a compressor, you should use it after the EQ. If you use a compressor as an effect, then you should use it first.           https://soundcloud.com/jaadoo
