I don't think there is a release knob on it, but if you look at the automation options there is a release you can choose. So I just control the release from an automation control.

..sure it has release and decay sliders, on logic audio I can load VB1 in 2 modes, standart GUI mode and a "controls" mode. when in controls mode the interface is gone and is substituted just by sliders, If I see at the noraml interface i see just 4 knobs. But if I switch to "CONTROL" mode I see 2 more knobs. release and decay ehehe and VOILA!!!! U should look how to put this vst on a standart GUI and not its own... those knobs are hidden.. hehehehehehe
I spent more than a year to figure this out hohohohoh and I've tried only on Logic Audio. Dont know how it works on other sequencers...
on logic functions perfectly

i dont care if technically they are correct. its not an fm sintesis. but 100% i can asure u that the release is release. if i put 1/96 or 1/32 or 1/16 note or whatever, but u pull the slider to the end u receive almost an infinite tone... is this a correct release? ehehehe
what is important that this so small vst is very capricious, just a tiny move and the sound is gone... but if u get it u get a monstruos harmonic bass, as build up of 4 diferent patches, warm subs, punchy mids, and very pleasant harmonic highs, also if u put your vb1 with a good compressor the notes from c1 to c2 sounds almost equal in loudness!!! u have a whole octave to play with without bothering if some tone will sound stronger due to the harmonic frequency changes.
...but this is just a way i've learned... dont take it 4 granted, if it doesent work for u, leave it

I couldn't understand why people liked the vb-1 until I found these "hidden" controls.

same as mi mate, same as me... I found this one year later
and now I'm happy ehehehehe,
sure VB1 alone is not good, it needs a godd distortion over it, but its so harmonic!!!
it sounds as playing chords on a bass guitar. I used to play bass guitar and yes. This is IT!

The release function of Vb 1 works in FL Studio aswell, but only as automation, not as stand alone knob.
it is set by default on 98 %, but decreasing the value makes the notes longer.
For Fl users: just click on the Vb 1 Plugin Options and than choose Browse Parameters.
Enjoy !
  NEW ALBUM OUT SOON !!!

mk47:
Well if you have a melodic bass (i.e notes on many different keys) compression helps 'even out' the sound...otherwise some notes might stick out like a sore thumb depending on eq etc.
If your bass is in a single key this isn't necessary and because compression destroys some of the dynamics of the sound it may not be desirable.
Personally though I still think some light compression gives a bit of extra pump and does not ruin the sound, but each one to their own |
