Hey..
If someone can help me It would be nice...
I made a few killer tracks using formula of bass hi hats kickdrum... all of these sound killer.. I EQ them properly and effects etc.. Using the "Waves" effects.. now when it comes to other sounds.. leads from synth/ Novation and MS 2000.. some loops..sound effects...they sound muffled..
I recently got P.A. system.. BIG sound.. and was playing it on them.. like I said its sounding muffled.. the sounds dont come out of the speaker clear... when I compare to artists like BLT, Tegma, etc... WTF am I doing wrong.. My friends and father says when I played for them a GMS track, that it must be recorded in 24/96... and they are using AutoPan and lots of EQ...
My question is this.. how can I make it sound more bright? It sounds good on my monitors "Aleses Monitor One" but on JBL EON G2.. it sounds very diffrent...
All the feedback is more than welcome.. and any artists that browse this forum can help me with this please.. thanks.. |

Jeto,
first I would check your amp. I believe Alesis Monitor 1 are not amplified speakers.. There is a chance that the amp u use adds some extra brightness to the sound ( they do that to sell more amps since the sound comes out more attractive ) and then when u mixdown your track, u get mislead a bit
One more thing u have to remember that u compare your trax to music that was already mastered, which means that certain frequencies were boosted ( usually a track sounds brighter after mastering - unless it was too bright in the first place ofcourse )
Last thing... with the percussion at least, and the hi hats... Don't forget to use a reverb, and preferably a reverb that u can tune ( Ultrafunk or Timeworks ), small rooms on your hats can do real wonders

if your monitors are ok and don't "lying" to you the problem is in a proper eq.
to make leads more brighter you have to know which freq's you must cut and which you may boost.
like yuli said reverb it's good for perc. - i will add - it's good until it's too much
i heard many artists on many albums that their tracks are just full of reeverb and it doesnt sounds good |

Jeto, to hear what I meant about the percussion and the hi hats, I advise u to hear Deep Dish / Underworld, they do that very very good and there is a lot to learn from 'em. And remember - EQ your reverb
