Hi !
I´ve been told that when you eq songs you should only make small adjustments with the eq, like boosting just with a few decibels otherwise you would ruin your song.
Allthough lately i´ve been equing more agressive, boosting and cutting a lot more and this have given me a better result. What´s your opinions regarding this ?
I´s it wrong to boost or cut to much with a eq ?
Thankful for any ideas |

small adjustments except low cut of leads, percussion and stuff or if you exactly know what kind of (artificial) sound you want to creat with big boosts and cuts imo. |

Yes i have an image in my head on how i want it to sound.I believe it´s easier to achieve it trough agressive equing. |

I prefer to tweak the sound at synth stage, and use EQ mostly for cutting out unneeded freqs, so, i'm for "gentle" way.
But it's nothing more than my way of work

I'll use aggressive EQing to find the spot I want and then I will start to back it down until I just start to lose that cut/boost.
As always I try to do a little less than I think it needs. |

I would agree with Speakfreaka.
Both types of processing can be usefull and everything in between.
The point, i think, is to learn (through experience) what you actualy need to do to a sound.
Don't be scared to use agressive eq but never forget that small changes can have an effect too.
Also, different eq's need different ammounts to do their work. And it will sound different too.
So actually the first step is to choose the right eq for the job. |

Very very agressive when it comes to producing (eq is an extra instrument, especially for everything concerning percussion) and very subtle for mixing at the end. But even when playing live I use very unorthodox bandpass settings on stuff (again: mostly percussion). Don't hold on too dogmaticly on the "only cut no boost" rule because it's bullshit. If you need to boost, boost! If you need to boost 12dB, do it fit sounds good. Ok, maybe my mixes aren't top notch neither, but still...
