Could some one explain me the effect caused on the sound,i feel lost sometimes when trying to come up with a sound from a synth, too much parameters and sometimes i loose the idea of certain things, example: envelopes on filters!!!
Also where to start tweaking, too much info and really feel lost, and becomes hard to come up with good synth patch., al least what i had in mind. |

I'm very new to the subject and my words will probably get bashed But here we go:
An envelope on a filter modulates the filters cutoff or resonance, so for example if you have an envelope that modulates the filter cutoff and you have the attack rate of the envelope set to its minimum then it would take the filter very few time (not sure how to say this correctly) to 'open' the cutoff button after the note is hit on your keyboard>> you have to keep in mind the value which is set for the filter-depth here.
I hope its a little more clear, i have no idea if my explanation is right or wrong, but its what i have come up with after 6 months of working with soft-synths.
Theres obviously plenty of people who can check if what i say is true...
And if you read the tutorials EYB mentions theres its probably much better explained. |

i advice you to use vanguard. it has a very good envelope struture.
only recently i become more confident while using filter envelopes and i can assure you it makes a lot of diference.
before make sure you understand how envelopes work and as always experiment ans listen how the changes you made affect the patch.
start with simple sounds (with not many modulations) and you will easily get the hang of it.
using pitch envelopes can also make learning how envelopes work more easy because changes are more easily heard and understood
