it will emphasise the differences between the left and the right channel. it's good if your stereo image is too narrow and gives a wider sound. don't overuse it and be careful will lower frequencies. |

Lately I've been using iZotope's Alloy channel strip for mixing purposes and included with the exciter is a stereo widener. I do use it when I mix but I am working towards a new workflow that has me creating tracks mostly in Ableton and then doing my mixing in Logic through rewire and in that case, I may use a little of the Alloy widener in Logic but generally I like to figure out my stereo field stuff a little earlier on in Ableton and maybe do some tweaks in Logic. So in this case, I would most likely use the Haas effect in Ableton with a Filter Delay because I just feel I have a little more control over the width than I do in Alloy. The mechanics of Alloy's widener are a little vague so I like to know exactly what I'm doing. I'm not positive on this but I think what Alloy is doing is essentially mimicking the Haas effect but from my understanding other wideners act in different ways. I would definitely recommend Alloy as a solid channel strip for mixing, it's essentially a lot of the same stuff as Ozone but it's geared towards mixing rather than mastering. Good luck! |

stereo delay with 10ms delay on one side and 1ms on the other you get nice stereo effect. then u can use native plug if your DAW has it and not have to dole out CPU/$$$ for plugz. is more versatile too...
its useful for creating cool FX and for mixing, read about the binaural effect
