Im totally on the opposite side.. Its not that I dont like non stop grooving for 9 minutes but there are some artists which really now how to do great breaks.. For instance theres this one track with almost only breaks, if I remember good its Manifold - Faces..
Also I just recently listened new album of electric universe and theres so much impressive breaks in that work and its just awesome.. Breaks just have to be done right otherwise it sucks.. You just have to stop to keep it going..
And of course like pipe said, 1 bar is already too long, Im talking about half bar and less, breaks u hardly notice, they just push the track..
but like subconsciousmind said, 90% of todays psy is crap with or without breaks.. So you have to engage your ear and look for the gems..           http://www.facebook.com/xrayzproductions

I'm with you on that one. I try to get better at them for the new stuff I am making. Its like stomp stomp stomp, short 2 beat breather/quickly gather chi... STOMP stomp stomp...something like that in dancefloor speak.

lets all get depressed about how bad the FREE music is.

Free because its made by incidental Samaritans. Oddly enough that's the only reason why we don't come right out and say how fucking shit it is 99% of the time.

Christ! will people pleeeeease stop fucking respecting each others right to mediocrity? And say outright hey XXX. Youre fucking shit. stop making me fall asleep while looking like YOU ARE THE CUNT at the mixing desk. U haven't contributed so much as a note to this genre. (obviously hypocrisy rates highly among my virtues)
It actually takes someone who's special to make real trance. i.e. obviously not you. You do not get to be cool just because you make shit!

I dont know. Maybe if we stop being PC the music will get less shit. I would like to see the equivalent of "THE RAZZIE AWARDS" for trance. Any idea of a name? or how judging would work? A wall of shame where everyone throws eggs at the bad dj's.

Peace love unity and Respect above all everyone.

And relax...what was that all about mate?
And there's good free music out there. Even Nano Records are giving free music away, there's a couple Tristan tunes that were free and proper slamming.

see, i'm kind of coming to this exactly from this side and am especially curious what people think about this as far as prog goes. some of my favorite progressive is early ticon and son kite albums and those were ALL about riding that groove for 9 minutes. and for a good reason because those grooves are just fucking massive.

to break or not break the groove, that is the question...

+1. Its the big groove and driving music that sets artists apart, not the complexity and occurence of their breaks. For me anyway.

I disagree. Breaks used too much suck I guess, but used in certain places they make people feel like they are entering new territories of their minds as the song progresses.

I especially love the break right before a nice gated pad comes in with a chill bass line.

Makes me feel like i'm standing in front of the ocean watching the waves come in. Best feeling ever.

Manifold rocks

to the topic, i think that Fullon suffers most from using TOO many breaks!
though there are alot of good fullon with smart breaks...

i think its the same with Dj´s that use the break effect that some mixers have all the time..
the thing is with flow, if you break it too many times people will get real annoyed and irritated and you ruin their mood so be aware

what is "good trance"? that one what You like? any other is bad?
music is creativity process and is still in progress.
if I don't like country (just example)
I don't write "stop making that shit, better make good music". I'm just don't listen that genre. I don't like, but I have RESPECT.
If I don't like Major scale I don't write posts like "people! stops making tracks with major chords! You can make good music, just use only dominant scales"

like in virtual Dj... they have some FX there... i think they have them on some hardware mixers aswell.. at least i heard at a party somekind of beat mangel effect, some pitched out stuff and the Dj used it several times.. it was very irritating... but i guess used wise it is nice
