From now on, all EMU Xboards is supported with zones control (check emu site for nu drivers, firmware and control app).
I know the basics (mapping different octaves and velocities) but is it possible to map two instruments on the same board p.e. 2 octs for a synth and 2 octs for Kontakt2?
This way I could play melody and sample FX at the same time.
All hints would be highly appreciated... |

Are you trying to map one half of your board to play one instrument and the other to play another?
I've got an X-Board too and i'm quite sure that it doen't have that function.
You could try putting your board playing both instruments at the same time and filter each instrument so that one doesn't play ah high notes and the other at low notes.
Or try to find a program/vst that does what you want..
I don't know if there is a board that does that. But if you get another board your problem is fixed. You can also use your keyboard ("asdfg") as a piano to. open Just map you x-board to one instrument and your keyboard to another.. but with your keyboard it's not the same thing..
You probable need more opinions

That sounds interesting. Have you tried it? What does it mean 'filtering' in this case?

No, i havent tryed it.
A filter is exactly as its name says. It filters.
Imagine some water with some sand and a filter. The water passes through the filter but the sand doesnt. In sound you can filter frequencies. a Sound with a frequency between 1kh and 5kh,when passing through a filter defined to filter all freq above 4kh the sound will end up with a freq of 1kh to 4kh.
You can aply a filter on each instrument. Say on one you want to play a low frequency atmosphere effect and on the other instrument your main electric lead.
You can put a filter effect on the first one filtering all high frequencies so that if you play a mid or a mid high note the instrument wont make any sound.
And the same on the other instrument, but with low freq.
But this is only a theory. Your sound wont have as much quality like this. Another board is the ideal solution.

'Practice makes perfect', wiseman says, so it's always useful to rehearse the definition of this important signal processing tool called filter.
Anyhow, I misunderstood your words on filtering, coz I thought that the host app. can make difference (not precisely 'filters it') which note has been pressed on the keyboard and if its in the range of the first two octs than it controls vsti X, if its in the second two octs it controls vsti Y.
Thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

your computer can recognise/difference every key on your board. Elsewhy how could it know witch button you presses?
But to do what you want i dont think there is a program for that. Sorry..
(and since no one else has replyed I think your screwed on this one..)

There is a solution to do this. You need Ableton Live (dunno if it works in Cubase):
1. Start E-MU Xboard Control application
2. Click on 'Zones' tab
3. Choose any patch in the Patches field
4. Click on 'Zones enable'
5. For 2 VSTi-s, click on 'Zone1' and 'Zone2'
6. Adjust Low and High Notes in both columns.
For 2 octs/Vsti you may type for Zone1: Low:0 High:59, Zone2: Low: 60 High:127
7. Save the patch and close app
1. Start Ableton
2. Create 2 midi trax, drop 2 VSTi-s on them
3. At midi track #1, select 'Ch.1' at Midi From submenu.
4. At midi track #2, select 'Ch.2' at Midi From submenu.
5. Click on the Arm button on midi track #1 (now it is red, and you should be able to play on your Xboard's first two octs)
6. _Ctrl_Click on the Arm button on midi track #2 (now both buttons are red)
7. Use the first 2 octs to play VSTi 1 and the second 2 octs to play VSTi 2 at the same time.
8. Enjoy
