Hello, I have this soundcard and I'm kinda new to this. Hoy can I use Skype with this sundcard? I already have the speakers connected to it and it works ok...but the microphone? where should I plug it?
The built in mic port of my computer won't work. And I can't figure which of the conectors of the EMU works for the mic, nor how to do the connection :S
Basic of basics, I know...hehe
Thanks in advance |

I'm not using Skype for years now but what i remember from when using it is this.
First of all, the mic should obviously be plugged to your audio card's mic input. Make sure that the card inputs and outputs are set correctly(for recording and playback respectively) on the windows control panel > Sounds & audio devices.
Set your audio card as the audio device for Skype and
turn the mic input of your audio card on when you make or receive a call and it should be ok.

Hi, thanks, but this soundcard seems to have no mic input, that's why I asked.
This is what this soundcard got:
I/O Configuration:
Two 1/4" Analog Inputs and Outputs
Optical 24-bit/96kHz S/PDIF In/Out (switchable to AES/EBU)
Coaxial 24-bit/96kHz S/PDIF In/Out (switchable to AES/EBU)
MIDI In/Out

Any ideas? thanks-!

It seems you need a preamp for your mic. Either that or have your built in soundcard configured for windows and skype and things like that. (This can cause conflicts with some sound cards. You need to check that this runs properly).

Windows detects both soundcards... the one that comes with de mother board and the EMU. I selected the original soundcard as the predeterminated in windows>control panel>sound-audio devices.. and I connected the mic and speakers to the MIC IN and AUDIO OUTof the original soundcard (not the EMU I/O), and I could hear the speakers, but when I did the hardware test in the audio control panel it didn't recieve my voice. I tried with 2 different mics and I also tried connecting mi mixer output to the MIC IN, and nothig....
Help please?? |

Assuming that on sounds and audio devices menu you have selected the emu for playback and recording, go to the emu's patchmix dsp mixer. Before that you connect your mic into one of the analog 1/4" inputs.
After you launch the patchmix dsp mixer, assign the two inputs to the two analog physical inputs of your card, if they are not already assigned like that. Make sure that the faders on both input channels are at least 75% high and not muted. Then talk into the mic. Normally you should get a signal to one of the two analog inputs, which means that audio is passing through.
If this happens, then you need to set Skype's audio properties in order to match with your soundcard.
In the case, that you'll use the onboard sound chip, then make sure in the windows recording mixer, that the mic/line input is checked, not muted and with it's fader again at least 75% all the way up.

Hi trancedelux!
I have also a emu 0404. It is true that you cannot connect a mic directly. I have a mixer to which i connect the mic. The mixer has an audio out (RCA) I connect this to the audio in (RCA) on the emu soundcard. This should be working for you too. |

Hi, thanks for the inputs.
Photon, that would work, but I'd like to do it without using the mixer, I think it's just too much for a simple voice chat. On the other side, how would you connect to the mixer a regular PC microphone, which has a mini plug connector?? are there any adapters?
thanks |
