Have any of you tried out the Elektron MonoMachine, or maybe you have it? Any comments? Usability? Sounds? I know it's a synth in its own league, nothing traditional here. So is it useful for more than IDM, chill and ambient and stuff like that?

I have an offer for a second hand monomachine. I have short on cash, but the seller is interested in my JP-8080 and I could get a deal by paying 250-300 e on top of that. The monomachine is like 1300e new.
Do you think I should still hold on that JP-8080? It's great for leads and pads, but I'd like something with more multitimbral capability and multiple outputs...
cheers! |

The price sounds right. Its all down to how much you like it. Some people in breaks swear by it. Personally I can only comment on the SIDstation side of things...I love them C64 sounds

I'm just wondering how well it bends for trance. Perhaps not for the typical sounds - but for something usable in the trance nonetheless?
I also like the idea of the 6 track sequencer for external synths. I could even play live without computer
The question is should I keep the JP. Is there something in JP that can't be replaced with other synths? The MonoMachine even has a multiwave sound engine, but it's monophonic like all the other machines - but you can get 6 note polyphony by using same synth for each track... |

Depends if you can live without the supersaw.
I borrowed a JP8080 a good few years back. I'd drop it for a Monomachine.

and actually, holding jp-8080 just for the supersaw is silly I guess, because monomachine actually has a superwave machine, which can produce similar sound - not only for saw but for pulse too... and with polyphony, too.
Maybe i'll head up to the some music store and try that beast out (if they have it for sale anywhere here in finland...)
thanks e-tard |

i would go for it in a snap... no doubt... I love that machine, i'm actually in the process of saving the money to buy it and i don't see why you wouldn't use it in psy... It has a very varied sound and a lot of automation options without even using midi. |

okay, I'll go for it. The only problem is that the seller is now thinking that he should still reconsider. He's not sure does he want nord lead, ks rack or something like that... So I need to persuade him with some pretty pictures and sound samples
Thanks |
