your egos exist to protect you from external danger and organize your otherwise messy emotional self. Ego is a good thing.
Being excessively narcissistic (self absorbed and navel gazing) or being sociopathic may not be such a good thing.
Our ego's exists as as a result of the conditioning we all go through when growing up, things our parents, schools, Rabbis, priests and shankaracharyas,in short society tells us. It is all the information (not experience) we identify with. The ego is precisely what is responsible for the messy emotional states we keep finding ourselves in. Once there is no ego, there is no one that can get hurt, that simple.
It seems to be a big problem here in North America, I was also asked to play for free on events (and I even did a few times... I know...), and with the same stupid argument, "DO IT FOR THE SCENE", I agree with you 100%,there should be some kind of compensation, regardless of the fact if it is Gil or anyone for that matter. Someone that goes out there on a stage and gives a performance deserves something in return. Simply to keep a balance.
Yes, it has also pissed me off plenty times, but not to the point of freaking out.

Actually, the whole strange underlying conflict and the ensuing emotional outbursts aside, Ocelot did bring up some very interesting points – important both in life in general and in “the scene” (IMHO). Manipulation and emotional blackmail is something each one of us deals with nearly every day. I came across an interesting book on “gaslighting” (I think it’s called “Gasslight Effect”). Haven’t read it yet, but it’s exactly about the things Ocelot brought up here. Has anybody here read it yet?
