So after being insulted here in the forum by mr Brain Lizzard (someone i have not had the *pleasure* of meeting personally yet)
after reading his rants on how Goa Gil is such a fake saddhu /ego tripper (even while mr Lizzard organizes such events!)
after hearing an outrageous story from a fellow artist that this mr Brain Lizzard asked this artist to COME TO North Caroline and PLAY FOR FREE to do it "for the scene"
and then accusing said artist of egoism when said artist didn't agree. (and this is an artist that bends over backwards for all kinds of bro bro connections)
I have come to the conclusion that I should give a brief tutorial on how to detect actual Sociopathic Egoism and avoid being MIND FUCKED by some asshole pretending to represent "the common good" or "the people" or "the scene" etc...
as a travelling artist who has been around the block a little bit (nothing so extensive as Gil although i hit a few places before he did but he's been doing this for many years more than I have)
I've seen a few scams in my day-
1)The Scene- while there are people who truly show up for a party ANYWHERE on earth, including the middle of Siberia, a party is generally a form of ENTERTAINMENT
(yes, your spiritual ritual is entertainment in this sense of what i am about to say- it enables you to keep working your job all week and substitutes for dropping out and traveling all the time and then a party is a place where you can sell some jewelry or clothes or something and sustain your travels)
this ENTERTAINMENT is for the locals, largely. Its this local group of people who is being entertained by someone hired from the outside and brought in for this purpose.
from the perspective of the outside person one could say:
"Dude, you want me to come entertain your friends for free so you can look cool and be the big organizer cheese"
fuck that shit. "The Scene" means the organizers friends. Man one time i played a private party for 25 people- well paid mind you, but imagine if those guys asked me to come do one "for the scene"
"the scene" is a selective term, in this case, for trying to emotionally tie you to a group of people that may or may not even be connected. In the case of a night club, it may be "who ever walks in the door"
and yet this artist, who probably is hungry and lives in a squat or something- is supposed to suffer for the sake of this group that really represents the ORGANIZERS entrenched interest.
EGO TRIP ALERT!!!!
2) EGO
your ego exists to protect you from external danger and organize your otherwise messy emotional self. Ego is a good thing.
Being excessively narcissistic (self absorbed and navel gazing) or being sociopathic may not be such a good thing.
If someone is trying to manipulate other people into doing things for them, and actually believes they have the right to do this, that is one sociopathic egoist and you should tell them to fuck off as soon as you get the chance. check them=-
there is no defense against being called an egoist- its like being called contrary.
if you say "no i am not" then you are being contrary.
"oh yes im an egoist and so are you and i think you are actually being a bigger egoist at the moment with your self-righteous accusation" is one possible response.
THOSE WHO SHOUT THE LOUDEST ABOUT OTHER PEOPLES EGOS ARE OFTEN THE BIGGEST EGOTISTICAL ASSHOLES (yes im aware of the irony of using capital letters on that phrase. regardless- remember it)
A healthy person does not try to keep other people "in their place"
but allows for them to grow and change and be themselves.
A manipulative fuck likes to keep people "in their place" so he/she can count on a nice submissive group of bitches to mindfuck.

Heard BrainLizzard spin once... good dj... nice and heavy. Last track was Ocelot - Tribedelica, which turned out to be one of the most memorable moments on the dancefloor. Wouldn't have sounded quite as good without the hours of brain assault before that but the whole mood reminded me of the Goa Gil vibe till he dropped that track.

Keep in mind the term "ego" was invented by a guy who used to prescribe cocaine to his friends and family, many of whom became very sick or died as a result, because he believed they all had nose disorders and wanted to fuck their own families.

In his defense, at least he was honest about it from the beginning, and the artist(s) in question had every right to accept or decline. I've met a lot of promoters who lie and offer artists the world for a booking only to fail and not deliver. Mr. Lizzard personally has put more time and money into making events happen than almost every promoter or artist I've met.
The apparent fact that there are people still discussing this as being "SO OUTRAGEOUS" at an arbitrary time after the fact brings up a lot of questions about THOSE people's so-called "egos" and makes me wonder why you're resorting to perpetuating rumors for the sake of some sort of sense of internet retaliatory self-satisfaction. |

i never had a single conversation with him.
on a thread where we were arguing about the origin of the term neurotrance, homeboy just busted out with really hurtful personal attacks like america didnt want me and im this egoist and it got me thinking- who the fuck is this guy, so i started to read his posts all over this forum, and i thought- why just snipe with him in some petty thread when i could come right to the point- fuck you mr brain lizzard.
why are you defending him in this A.M?
what ive seen
1) he rips on the guy whom he brings to play (Gil) as being an egoist
2) he calls lots of people egoists
3) me manipulates communitarian impulses for his selfish needs

Because it's a public discussion, and as far as my counterpoint (the one in his defense) is because it came from my personal experiences with him regarding being asked to play for free. Beyond that I'm not really interested in taking sides in the matter as everyone involved is also capable of speaking their own mind.

There is an interesting thing I’ve noticed about BrainLizzard:
people who know him personally seem to like him more than people who just wade through his posts in LizzardSpeak. And those people don’t strike me as Devil’s spawn either (at least based on their own posts and what “people-at-large” write about them). So, it seems quite likely that he’s actually OK. I hear he’s a good DJ too.
The whole incident would probably be easily resolved with a short PM exchange between the two of you.
I think you’re right: personal attacks in an open forum are not cool. But the same logic goes the other way too. Dealing in rumors is a dirty trick. Whatever happened between Lizzard and that producer is between the two of them. If the producer in question really believed it’s a matter worthy of a public discussion, we’d hear about it from him, right?
Completely unrelated to this mess – I am sorry for your recent loss.
