Was wondering which effects can be used to make a 'windy' sound get more crisp? Bitcrusher doesn't quite do it for me... |

- adding subtle noise to instruments (for example: In ableton its quite easy, just add a vocoder with noise on the duplicated track)
- subtle distortion/overdrive
Maybe even add a little bit of FM....
There are lots of other ways I guess. |

Do you mean washy FX like noise going through a LP filter ?
Try slow modulation FX like Phaser |

windy like, lots of reverb or a white noise osc or both or....??
a bandpass filter with an LFO or curvy automation on it running through white noise maybe...
maybe a bit of waveshaping (ableton's is quite awesome)....
do you not like the bitcrush because it alters too much of the sound? Maybe try sending the wind to a return track with a tiny bit of crush and then route the original wind and the crushed wind into a new audio track - could also try the same thing with subtle flange/phase like yveuss suggested

how are you generating the initial sound that you want to alter????
Describing sounds with text is pretty much epic fail all around. need more concrete info and less tffff krrrr zrwowrw

this sounds like a harsh saw wave with less bass/mids, just the highs and maybe add a little whitenoise.
cheers

To me it sounds like he's having mush color or white noise bit is going for the static noise sound.. :l
what about uploading just a sound sample of the sound you have and maybe if you find it, a part of a song or something of what you're going for?

I said I like it dirty, not muddy. |

when you are automating white/pink noise stuff, I find it to be very important to draw in nice curves. A straight-ish line automating the filter cutoff of these things sounds rather boring and linear.
