hello,
I would like to get some feedback regarding techniques for editing vocal samples.. ie/ tricks etc..

I very good recent example could be Hopefiend's new corker 'Crackdown' with the brilliant sample 'never take a drug named .....ass'
There is some serious manipulation of the sample done there
Any advice on how I could do similar things in Wavelab, Soundforge or Logic sample editor?

cheers

you can do a lot of things with the effects of sound forge
also the fruity loops plugins make good variations
delays, flangers, tremlo etc...

i think the kind of vocals you talk about, are well treated through very expensive effect.
try do some creative writing of the automation on some good vst delay such lexicon or ohmboyz and if you try to do your best you might be the next tim healy

goodluck!

well, in regards to hopefiend's track, i think all he did was cut a few phrases such as "never" and "take", and worked some magic on them - i.e - lots of effects - delay, chorus, flanger, you name it.
since the question is not Just about that track, my suggestion is this:
if you have a sample you want to use, take it, put it in a wav editor (any would do, i use sonic foundery's sound forge), and CLEAN IT UP. especially from static. you can accomplish that by using EQ. also look up some older threads in this section in regarding, respectfully.
once you have that sample you want all crystal clear, start cutting excerpts from it, so you can re-use them. for example, i've found a long flute piece, but even after i managed to set it at the correct BPM, it still didnt match the track's groove. so i edited the part into segments. that way, you can have an entire sentence in segments and have your way with it the way you want it.
trying to accomplish the same results as Allen did on that track purely on a wav editor, is a tedious proccess. use the sequencer of your choice after you edit your sample for quicker, better manipulation, imo.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. and one hell of a track
some people do have the tendency to manipulate samples in weird and psychedelic ways. for instance, i once took a sample from the english version of iron monkey, and turned some static into a snare loop, a sound of wooden stickd thrown on the ground in to a percussion loop and a scream "Do it" in to the main theme of the track.
it's all in the wrist, baby
