M1: Is very small, so if you travel with it, then it's a good choice.
PCR-M30: Compact aswell. Good keys, but the knobs are a bit fucked due to the fact that theres a gap in 12 o`clock.
Mk449c: Knobs and faders doesent feel so professional, but they work fine. Keys are'nt as good as edirols, but they are fine i think. Not a bad choise. I have one myself.
I would'nt buy an edirol because of the fucked up knobs. I'd go for evolution.
If you want small, there's other options aswell. For example -> http://www.alesis.com/product.php?id=14 | http://www.novationmusic.com |

Hey fredini...as far as monitors r concerned i did a lot of research on d best monitors for diff budgets:
if ur going for something mid-range (good price-good performance) active monitors i'd suggest:
Krk rokit powered 6, Fostex PM1 (i ended up buying these), Alesis Mk2 Active
Then priced a lil higher (u get wt u pay for):
Mackie HR 624, Event Tr8XL, Dynaudio BM5a
n finally d one's u def need to get if u have d money:
Mackie HR 824, Dynaudio Bm6a
I spent a lot of time reading through various reviews n articles n these were recommended by most pro's...so any of these would do!

For the controller.... i think is just a size problem. Depending on the size you want you have different options. I've seen MAUDIO OZONE, really tiny keyboard with 8 knobs that is OK. If you don't bother a bigger thing, MK¿449? has 8 sliders and 8 faders, 49 keys... a friend of mine has one, it's OK! I own Evolution MK-249C2 (Keyboard) and UC-33 (sliders and knob) and pretty happy with'em.
about sound interfaces.... hehehe .... Also size and type of use matters. If you looking for a portable one, I think Firewire is the way to go. I have a Firewire audio interface and it's just nice to plug it to the laptop or to the desktop at your will... BUT- you can buy a better sound "card" (i mean internal, for desktop machines) than Firewire interface for the same price.
If I have to recommend a Firewire interface to anybody, no doubt at all MOTU 828MK2 is the one. I've owned other firewire interfaces, from MAudio FW410, MAudio FW1814, Edirol FA66 .... MOTU 828 is bigger in size, a real shame, but man.... is sooooooo big in performance that you accept its extra size with an ear-to-ear smile. And if willing to spend some extra euro200, take a look at the MOTU TRAVELLER!! hmmmmm ... getting ho*ny
about monitors.... i'm not a serious professional ... for my budget, i got Tannoy Reveal Active for like 600euro and I am very happy with'em. Besides, they're really pretty, with the blue light and stuff, but that's personal likes Some people think they lack bass, but really I think they got monster sound! |

Hi Fredini,
Forget Edirol and M-Audio/Evolution. They are toys!
Check out Novation or at least Korg Microkontrol. If you need only a fader control or a rotary control try BCR2000/BCF2000 or Kenton Freak Control/Spin Doctor.

Hi rupps and all,
Yeah, the microKontrol keyboard is really a shit, but I think it's only because the keyboard are so small (for kids finger :) and have no aftertouch. In my opnion, the problem with M-Audio/Evolution keyboard is that they looks and feels like toy keys (only comparable to some low price, cheapest Casio keyboards). Edirol keyboard have exactly the same problem, although PCR-M series make some improvements to the old PC series.
Back to microKontrol, joystick is another item some people, like me, disgust. Joysticks can be good for studio/produce purposes but for live performances, mod and bend wheel give better control.
Apart that, microKontrol have endless knobs and this is definitively a really, really important thing, lacked in Evolution and Edirol (I think this is the reason why they are cheap...) And pads: good for percussion things and for lives too, although you can set that trigger pads to control whatever you want. Yeah, isn't a MPC but worth the price. |

hi woyzyek n rest!
have been trying this week the new Korg keyboard, microKontrol older bro "Kontrol49", which features faders, knobs and the same pad the mcontrol has... (hat's happening with korg????? the faders on this (expensive!!!) toy (around 600 euro) are the shitmost sliders I have ever seen. I was really really surprised to see such low quality components in a Korg. The Pads have a really strange feeling, looks like you don't press'em ... hmmm....
On the other hand, I was trying the new Behringer Fader BCF2000.... YUMM!!!!!! REALLY ROX !!!!! for 260euro you get lots of MOTORIZED sliders, rotary encoders and midi buttons .... and the feeling this machine gives you is really solid!!! Definitely would like 2have it !!! |
