To highlight and celebrate the solar eclipse on Friday August 1st, Eclipse Festival 2008 will be held the same week-end and take place August 1-4. The festival returns to the site of the 2005 and 2006 editions, on the shores of magnificent Gatineau river. The solar edition will be presented in the enchanting natural landscape of Bonnet Rouge, in Sainte-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau, Outaouais.

~ ESPACE COMME-UN ~
The Espace Comme-un will foster art and consciousness. Its solar portion will allow participants to take part in conferences and workshops on varied topics, while its lunar portion will focus on multimedia projection: images, short films and films. This area will be a space of synergy between participants, where they can, if only for a moment, relax, learn, be captivated and get warm at need.
The space will be officially launched on Saturday at noon with a potluck lunch: everyone is invited to bring a dish to share. Throughout the festival, you are also invited to showcase your talents on the bulletin board, so that bonds can be created both during and after the event. Participants can also place presents in a box—those presents will be redistributed at random during the festival, increasing the expression of links and coincidences.

Interview with Adham Shaikh
Hi Adam, first off, thanks so much for taking the time to complete this interview for the Eclipse Summer Trance Festival, Jester Records + techno.fm…
1) Please Adham, state your full name.
Adham Shaikh
2) As we can see, you are involved in more than just one project, please state the names of those projects.
Currently I have two live projects and adham shaikh as a world fusion dj or chillout The Dreamtree Project is my live Indian Raga dub fusion project with Uwe Neumann (Sitar) E Shankar (Tabla) and M Carter (flute). The Adham Shaikh Collective ( featuring Melissa Meretsky of wassabi collective)Marty Carter Flutes Sax djembe , Kris ledrew Djembe, latin percussion, brazillian percussion. Gemma Luna Vocals , Jeff Holden Vocals, didj percussion.… This is my world fusion tribal project as featured on mylast full length “Collectivity” and playing around the west coast.
As a dj I play music of my releases and many other artists from around the world.
I play a uptempo world fusion set that weaves together many different styles and ethnicities. From breaks , prog trance , electro , hiphop , downtempo , bhangra , gypsy , dub , and tribal into a journey thru dimensions.
As a downtempo artist I bring together many of my ambient recordings and live techniques to create a magic carpet ride of gentle and deep frequencies and sacred sounds. Blending original composition and sound with layers of electronics and pre recorded sound.
3) Dreamtree project ?? please, tell us a little bit about that project and how that differs from your solo project.
The dreamtree project is this amazing fusion of classical Indian raga’s and electronics.. it Features A brilliant sitarist from montreal Uwe Neumann and the Very Talented Shankar Das on tabla. For many years exploring the fusion of east n west. Psychedelic space and Reality Space. The paradoxes of duality and the magic carpet ride that is evoked………..It differs from adham shaikh solo in many ways. Firstly its live fusion first and not studio composition first. The record was made after many tours presenting material. It is improvisatory in nature and therefore is always changing and fully in the present but using western rythms and frequencies to bring the dance component to the raga system….
4) How long have you been making music for ?
Composing and releasing for about 18 years or so
5) Have you ever tried to make more dancefloor friendly stuff ?
I have….. many songs on my juno nominated world fusion release “fusion” are very upbeat and tribal and many trks on the release “collectivity” are also upbeat.
But its true that in the east and thru my association with interchill many more people know me for my downtempo and chillout music…..but if you visit sonicturtle.com or myspace/adhamshaikh you can hear more of my upbeat stuff.
6) Please, tell us about Sonic Turtle and interchill, your home label’s.
Well my own label sonicturtle is evolving to release the projects that I am associated with ( adham shaikh world fusion artist. , Dreamtree Project ) as well as soon the projects that I have been producing and Artists that I have been working with. ( Gemma Luna , Kris Ledrew) . Interchill is a brilliant electronic label that continually releases cutting edge electronica from around the globe and ive been fortunate to be able to release a few things with them..(journey to the sun (chillout)) , and many songs on compilations…(Talisman, Arcana , Gathering the Tribe) Now situated on the lovely island of saltspring. They continue to release and I continue to offer songs for comps and collaborate on various projects with them.
7)This is not your first presentation at the Eclipse Festival. How does it make you feel that Techsafari keeps coming back for more Shaike ?? J Its feels great to meet a community of people that enjoy the same sound vibrations as I and I am honoured to be invited back. Its affirming to know people on the east side of this big land sharing the same desire to bring community together in peace to share music and art in a space free of commercialization and negative vibes with brilliant artists from around the world…( we are so lucky) 8) Do you plan on staying for the entire festival ?
Certainly Do!
9) What are the ideal times for your performances ?
I am very adaptable…..I have music for all hours and always try to fit my set to the time of the flow.(perhaps 10pm to 1am if upbeat and 3am – 6 am if downtempo) The Dreamtree Project is a good afternoon dub on the beach type thing or a mid evening magic carpet ride toward the higher energies of the tribal and trance
10) Besides the Eclipse Festival, what other big festival’s have you performed at ?
I have performed at Samothraki Dance Festival in Greece Twice., At Boom Festival in Portugal , At Shambhala Festival in Bc(8 times) At Maori International Peace Festival Parhihaka in New Zealand, Waveform Festival in Uk.
11) Which one of those impressed you the most ?
Maori International Peace Festival Parhihaka in New Zealand. For the concept of the festival and love shown by all the maori . And Boom Festival in Portugal for more reasons than can be expressed in a single article.
12) The Adham Shaikh project has been very successful; what inspired you ?
The love of music and the joy of being a part of musical adventures that are larger than myself.
13) What motivates you to persist in the music industy ?
I sometimes wonder about that one…Still the love of music.
14) Who is your favorite artist ?
If I had to only pick one. And that’s kind of asking which is your favourite air molecule…But I would say Hariprasad Chaurasia, Master Bansuri player.
15) To end things, have there ever been times in your career that you felt like giving up, but you persisted ?
Yes and still I am challenged to survive. But even after I give up , I would still want to make music…?
