This topic reminds me that I did a trip hop set with a friend of mine (maitreya) 2 months ago, and there's a Mauxuam track mixed with "Bony Incus remix" from Eat Static, and it fits very well you know
Talking about myspace sounds, I'm eagerly waiting Dendron to release this damn fucking good track "New Sensation", I miss really good materials to mix with, these days...

"holy stone" ...such a trippy track, gets my vote for track of the year so far...typical eat static atmospheres/weirdness and the reason i dig this genre so much...in line with those that have appeared on interchill comps in the past...MORE PLS!
"dune rider" ... the (hillage) guitar gives this track such a nice lift and blends well with the north african samples.
"flippity.." & "the wreckage" 2 perfectly produced ibiza style jazzy lounge tracks...cant complain
"valley of the moon"...sounds a bit like bluetech melodies (but with added oomph)
"pharaoh" + "epoch calypso" noisy world samples...didnt dig at all..
the rest are nice grooves that gro on u..
11 tracks...so even if theres a few duds theres something 4 everyone (inc maux)
now if someone could persuade cosmosis 2 do the same and release an album of psy chill...

wow what a thread!
you are all nuts.
in other news, i think that the eat static album is nice enough overall. but on further listen:
1- like the way the album takes off with a nice deep clicky rhythmspace. reminds me of phoenicia a bit.
2- pharoah - too much on the ethnic samples though he does this well, some crowds eat this up if they havent been over-shpongled.
3- low ride sloucher, has some great crunchy elements and rich sounds but resorts to the over the topness of glitch filter used on string instrument which has been done. theres some other deep moments that i wish werent sandwiched between or around the glitchy bit or the odd vocal :s
4- flippity - very laid back track, makes me want to lounge out.
5 epoch calypso- is this shpongle? no, seriously. so derivative of himself and some very similar , very very similar sounding tracks out there from the other guys. spectrasonics anyone? ;p
6- holy stone is likely the winner of this disc. nice classic feel without being overdone. seems like this would be a nice one to drop on a chillroom .
7- a deep house number , with some more glitch , and nice progression, though same bassline throughout 7 minutes. like the harp like sounds, very mystical foggy morning tune, would slide into a dj mix of this style well.
8- up periscope - a rolling dub number with some perky feelings. some nice distortion play ... again could well be mixed.
9- dune rider does infact showcase hillage nicely, though sounds familiar somehow... cant put my finger on it. a bit too ethnic for my taste. bellydancers will like that.
10- this one is nice and warm, hopeful. will go well in coffeeshops and sunday mornings at home.
11- its like older trip hop, almost portishead sound thru the merv-UFO-phone. very smoky and subtle, a bit slow for much other than pure chilling. which is what we all seem to need in this "chill" area. hehe
overall the album does show a different and ranging side of eat static's ever growing catalogue. some will be remembered some will be washed away in the memories due to the sheer volume of psy-chill-ethno-stuff over the past few years.

also to stay oooffff tooopicc
i would say that Liquid Strangers live material is fresh and some of the best and most danceable dubstep ive heard. i was proud to have booked him for Gemini!
any label would do well to release some of it for his sake and everyones. though him keeping the high quality versions to himself does give him an advantage for being booked

after listening more and hearing some tracks played out recently by others, i stand by my review and really like the tracks i like. and the tracks i dont like remain the same. though the ethnochill style does seem to go over well, it has to be just the right moment for me, i prefer some of the others moreso.
a solid release that will certainly fill a corner in your cd box nicely.

I just read this whole thread. There's a fair bit of tripe and other offal on here, and it's quite humourous too!
i've decided to take the plunge and buy this release and accompany Eat Static on their journey back to earth.
