what interests me is why people think what they do, much less than what they think.
if it is just subjective opinion then who cares, but if it is well thought out criticism based upon a close listen then I'm curious.

IMHO "internet" samples are generally CRAP...and not a good way to choose music...most of the time the sound quality is really shit...the streaming is dodgy and jumpy...and the choise of the sample is not appropriate.
30 sec samples can be enough to choose a POP mainstream 3 min song...but not to choose something more deep and elaborate....
I personally don't like them...
said that....I got the all album of Eatstatic from Eatdigital...
and I could not resist to skip after 1 min of each tune...because the tunes are not just out of my taste...but they also irritate me...which is no good.
sorry Andrew....no well thought criticism from me...but just an impulsive VERY SUBJECTIVE opinion (and not because of this less important, for me at least).
Off course I wish to Interchill and Merv a huge success with this release...good production and all of that...but I erased the files from my HD to make space to other more smelly shit.

Yeah, honesty sucks. So here is my review of the samples.
http://interchill.com/ (uses frames so I cannot link)
http://www.emusic.com/album/Eat-Static-Back-to-Earth-MP3-Download/11232855.html
I am incredibly bored with most stuff that is released today. It all sounds the same. Keep that in mind if you are reading this.
Track 1: Glitchy clicky disharmonic IDM. I dislike IDM.
Track 2: Cheesy turkish pop. I sometimes like that but only if it comes with cheesy vocals too.
Track 3: Glitchy IDM again. Oh, that psychedelic beat. That high sample totally reminds me of some (demoscene) demo from Mekka 1997, can't remember the name though (PK is dead maybe). I liked that demo's music much better.
Track 4: Disharmonic, random, loungy, doodoodoodling. Way too loud and noisy for me to enjoy.
Track 5: Yeehaw, Ricky Martin, shake your latin booty. Ugh?
Track 6: Ambient techno dub with 80s alien samples. The emusic sample suggests that it goes into something better later on but that kind of hissing unmelodic dub is not my kind of stuff.
Track 7: Completely useless sample at Interchill. A bit better at emusic but if that is the track then I can honestly say "boring".
Track 8: Random squeaking noises.
Track 9: Wee, generic latin rrrattattadam again. Flute: check, sitar: check, desert-theme trackname: check, boring: check. Seems to turn into cheesy turkish pop music later on.
Track 10: Not too bad. It's not memorable in any way though. Generic.
Track 11: This one is kinda nice. Very melancholic and negative though. I want music to make me feel good. Too Boards of Canada-ish too.
So overall it sounds like a mess of genres and styles, cheap and generic sounding and not leaving any impression on me.
andrew: I highly suggest that Interchill chooses parts of the tracks where one can actually hear the music (instead of just the intro) for the samples. Why not even provide the full tracks in, say, 64-96 kbit/s? No-one is going to download that and not buy it (if they would have bought it after the samples or otherwise).
And PS: addictech charging 16$ for a lossless-Download is a total ripoff. (well, not for europeans with the weak dollar, but that's full price of a CD, isn't it? There is not even a mention if the files are properly tagged or if artwork is included, heh.

True, but it's still a lot cheaper than beatport. And you save on postage.
I haven't heard this album yet, but the reports of the eat static chill set from rainbow serpent earlier this year were glowing...
ps, re: track 8. i like random squeaking noises. ;-) |

Holy smokes.
What's with these negative reviews?! I don't understand it.
Its a brilliant album. No questions about it.
The people who diss it are just plain wrong and biased.
The chilling spirits track by track analysis is rather amusing because it shows how completely ridiculous the negative and unwarranted comments are. It almost reads like a vendetta against Eat Static or Interchill.
And Mauxuam's rude comments about the album are definitely unjustified. Wheres the respect?
To all you dissers of the Eat Static album out there, SHAME ON YOU! |

| I just honestly wrote what I (me, my taste, completely subjective and personal) think about it. It was not remotely meant as objective and distant review but as "why don't I like it". ;)

Dude labels are defined by their output. He might not have spoken directly about Interchill as a label but he sure did about their release in a thread opened by the label owner.
I'm not agreeing and disagreeing with his taste nor am I saying he should shut up but it would have been a nice display of manners and common courtesy not to write impulsive (his own admission),public criticisim of the CD that was released just after his on Interchill.

So what you're saying is: Maux can't say ANYTHING about ANY Interchill release only because the same label released his album? LOL

How about you read before you click that "submit" button?

once again we have certain people who can't even put out a good song, let alone a decent album, and your going to give your cowardly opinions while your typing away about how their music is no good. lol quit being pussies and say it to their faces. seriously, go to a eat static show and tell them your worthless thoughts. but i know you won't because you would rather sit in your computer throne and crown yourself the almighty forum retard. you are better than all of us maux, we are all peasants in your kingdom of internet arguments. you are the ruler of ambient and chill out. i bet you expect even andrew interchill to bow down to you. peace out wankers
