http://www.ultimateears.com/custom/ER-15_earplugs.htm

I have a pair of Etmyotic Research ER-15 customs earmolds, a.k.a. Musicians' Plugs.

The are hands-down the best sound gear I have ever invested in, EVER. The sound is crystal-clear, and don't cause distortion like foam earplugs. They are audiophile grade.

They are liking having $300 polarized designer "sunglasses," for your hearing. After you try them - and you have to sit through one distortion-filled deaf DJ set without them - it is unbearable.

When I was living in the city and involved in the electronic music scene, at least 3 or 4 times a week I would be exposed to sound levels that were full of distortion, and capable on causing permanent loss.

They are also essential if you DJ - as 3 hours+ of high volume monitors and headphone cuing is a sure ticket to tinnitus if you do it for long enough.

I keep these earplugs on my keychain, so I never, ever go anywhere without them.

Go to see an audiologist, get your hearing checked, and get Musician's Plugs moulded and made - PRONTO!

It is never too late to be safe and keep what hearing you still have!

I always use earplugs, have bought a couple of different ones. For me it is a must unless the music volume is very low.

My main main reason for using earplugs is to protect the ears, dont want to damage them. But another reason is also that i hear the music much better with them, sometimes the volume is so high that i cant hear the music and then i hear better with earplugs. It makes it much clearer.

I have heard about special designed earplugs were you form them after your ear and can decide which volume you want on them. Perhaps something that i will check out in the future but at the moment the types of earplugs i already got works good.

A good side effect is also the fact that the music sounds better with them, as the deep frequencies remain untouched whereas the painful mids and highs are less agressive as if they were put into a cotton cloth.

The same here, it becames less agressive and painless

My rule is very simple - if there is a funktion one system, I don't need earplugs. If its any other system, I do....or at the very least don't stand inside the speaker stack...and take breaks.

Unless the funktion one is inside (blasphemy!) - then you sure as shit need some earplugs.

I constantly see people dancing in front of the speaker stacks at parties without earplugs, and every single time I think...what a fucking moron.

If you like music, and would like to continue to be able to appreciate music as best you can with the equipment you have....invest in good earplugs.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe
