I was at the music shop yesterday and got a price offer for an e-mu E-card sound card with some pretty nifty programs (cue-base lite edition for one).
question 1: is it worth nearly 2000 shekels?
question 2: is there a used one up for sale?
question 3: do i really need an external panel with pre-amps and stuff like that?

Not sure about the first 2 questions but having an external panel (called a breakout box) is really useful. It's convenient and all of the ADCDAC are not in your computer, which makes the sound better.
