Hi! I don't have this one but I own a 0404 and my brother has a 1820... and I recomend everyone to stay away from emu since they belong to creative-labs. The drivers are complete crap and they don't update them for ages and if I look on the support-page for the 1616, there a exactly 0 updates available. I don't know if the driver architecture for the mobile devices is the same, but the pci productline produces unpredictable random errors for many users (including me). I prefered the 0404 over others because of the onboard dsp, but in fact I can't use the effects in many applications (ableton for example) without crackling noises or no sound.
have a look at the "unofficial" forum at
http://www.productionforums.com/emu/
where many people complain about similar problems. nothing is done although the probs are known for ages (emu staff hangin around there) and it even happened threads were locked an people got banned if they criticised the drivers to often.
so be warned... |

I ve got a emu1212m
and i am very happy with it.
The drivers got a update 3 or 4 four times since i have it, and they are very stable.
I don't know the 1616 but i can recommend emu stuff

i have the 0404 like hereander. i havnt had any problems like that, but i still wouldnt suggest emu stuff. its just a little below standard. i'd suggest spending a little more money for something a little more trusted. but i have been told emu stuff isnt bad by lots of people, so its up to you.

Well... at least you should wait a little before you buy the 1616 as there are not many reports yet. If I had waited for all those complaints on the emu forum I would have bought the M-Audio Card instead.
Maybe the 1616 won't cause any problems at all, but I would wait some time or buy something else...
If you don't rely on the onboard dsp-effects (which I don't find overwhelming btw.) you could also buy a firewire device like those from M-Audio |

hmm. i think emu stuff shoul be good. they where pioniers with making sound cards.
for sure the rme is real good but the 1616m sounds verry good. and its 400€ cheaper. i thinking about it to. but i will wait for some tests in music magazines.
