One thing i'm unable to understand is how is it possible one certain pair of monitors to be the best for a specific style/sub style of electronic dance music. Isn't it more correct to associate the performance of a monitor with general music styles, for example classical, rock, electronic etc.?

To get back to the topic, Dynaudio seems to be the most favorite monitor on this forum. If you are going to produce only and for ever psytrance then Dynaudio should be it, as it performs best according again to the forum. But if you don't, then get the Focals. They are simply better.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

focals are better indeed... but 70% of the psy trance mixes are done in dynaudios.
in my ears i find focals more gentle in the sound and i would be more comfortable mixing other styles of music on them.
dynaudios sound alot like a club music monitor with very tight and punchy sound that sounds good on hard kicks and tight basses.           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

Well here's my two cents:

I've used & owned both the Dynaudio BM5A & BM6A (MKI) in the past.

Well the BM6A are great monitors but to be honest they're a little hyped & not as accurate as some higher end monitors.

I upgraded from BM6A to K+H0300 & the difference was VERY obvious. I can hear many things now that the Dynaudio never allowed me to. The Dynaudio's made everything sound too good which is something you don't want in a monitor.

I'm assuming the Focals will be in the same league as the K+H. They will make you work much harder in getting a good mix. But when you do get the mix right then it will translate much better than the Dynaudio's ever will.

So to make it short if you can afford it then go for the Focals will be a much better choice but that doesn't mean that the Dynaudio's will fail either.

EDIT: I just realised you're comparing the Solo's & not the Twins. In that case the BM6A are a better choice as the Solo's won't have the low end extension you need to make dance music, unless you get a sub later on.          http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

You have to compare monitors side by side. I highly recommend buying one of each monitor & listening to them in your studio. Each room affects the sound just as much as the monitors do. I imagine many folks don't have a good shop that carry what you are looking for locally. For the money you spend in shipping, it's worth it to know you made the right choice. Just make sure you buy from a place with a 100% no hassle's return policy.

I recently did this with a Adam A7's vs. Tannoy 66d's. Tannoys sounded great, but the Adam's had the level of detail in the upper range that the Tannoy's lacked a little. Adam's aren't as full in the low end, but I intended to get a sub to help out.

why would you say dynaudio? did u mix on both of tham? so you know the dynas are a better choise?

dynaudio is a good monitor , a standart choise today for most of the trance producers, i think most of the ppl choise tham cuz its like a fashion, like event2020 was some years go.

you should not buy monitors by any this crap of wich monitor fit specific genere of music.

you should not buy monitors by what you read on the forums, you can take it as advice, but you should take tham both for a try in your own studio. or at least listen to tham some where.

i had bm6 and later on bm6a wich are better in my opinion than the passive version. than recently i change to focal twin6be with not supposed be much diffrent than the solo 6 in the sound image exept loudness and low freq detailing.

in my opinion and from my experience the focal show you much more than the dynas in all the sepctrum.

if you can afford to get focal twins or k&h o300 go for it, you wont be sorry.

i dont know if the solo6 will be a better choise than the bm6a, i didnt heard tham, but there is not much smalle speakers like the bm6a with such a low end punch. i dont know if the solo6 can provide that without a sub, like get-a-fix told above me, but one thing is sure, the will be more honest in the high and mid range areas.

the focals translate much better than the dynas, when i had the dyans in my studio i was alwas finding myself chacking our my mixes in other studios , in the living room stereo, in the car stereo, and always it was sounded not exactly what i wanted it to be and how it sounded on the dynaudios, with the focals i do work harder on the mix, but than if its good, it sounds good anywhere i chack it later.

What you say makes me reminding the very dry sounding NS10. Bbout the Dynaudio I can not agree realy to that point. I usually prefer warm and soft 808 Kicks and very undefined low end basses or basspads, especially this very deep frequences are mixed on dynaudios easily - and I use to mix not very loud by the way. In my experiences the Dynas lack a little bit when high frequences become to complex and they tend to make your mix of highfrequences a bit too hard and aggressive sometimes. When you have used Kick+Bass with a lot of mids and highs in this case, the overall picture of the top-fequences could be a bit overstretched.
