looking for opinions on these 2 monitors, which is overall the better set,
it would be my idea that the Dynaudios would sound better, but the Mackies are quite a bit cheaper in price, and still respected as a quality monitor.
would this be a resonable compromise?
any feedback is welcome!

What is better sound is very subjective.
I never actually used the Mackies, but the Dynaudios is definitely great monitors.
The Mackies have been getting a lot of bad rep for being harsh and not translating too well on for example gearslutz.com so I would be weary of those.
But tastes of course differ and one thing you should decide on before getting a set of monitors is if you like a smooth and non-fatiguing sound or a clear and crisp sound.
If clear and crisp is your style you might prefer Mackies, Genelecs, Yamahas or JBL's.
If smooth and non-fatiguing Dynaudio and Tannoy is the best IMO.
Personally I'm just about to order a pair of Tannoy Reveal 8D's after a lot of consideration.
I always liked Dynaudio and Tannoy because I find their sound less harsh compared to many other brands, and mixes made on their monitors tend to translate really well.
The dynaudios has very nice bass...even if it's somewhat coloured and unnatural they work really well for dance music.
The tannoy's tend to give a clearer and deeper sound in the mids and highs.

I also heard that the mk2's use slightly inferior parts compared to the original one's..
Haven't had a chance to demo them yet though, if i were to go for the Mk2's i'd go for the BM12A instead..

Yeah i'm thinking of selling my 6A's & getting the 15A's..They go down to 30hz & have a 200 watt amp just for the woofer so i guess they're worth it! What i also like about them is that unlike the 6A's they're front ported so you can get away with putting them near walls..
It would cost me a little more then getting a 9S sub or the same as a 10S, so i'm wondering what's a better move..

before I bought my bm6a I tried also the mackies.
In my opinion the dynaudio sound much better. the mackies kind of "fake convince" because of the (exagerated) bassresponce at first sight. (if you are a bass addict like I am)

how much of a concern is it to have rear bass ported monitors when they are placed "cornered" or agenst a wall?
are monitors like the Dynaudio BM6A MADE to be ceneterd in a room? or could i work around it? |

That's the first I've seen of the 12A's... most retailers here seem to skip from the 6A's to the 15A's.
I'd love the 15s but... $... wow

Another cost-effective solution is to use Dynaudio BM15 passives in combination with a good poweramp. Check this review for some of the pros and cons of using the passives with a separate amp:

I use this combo and i don't think i'll be buying new speakers anytime soon

I have the HR-624, they are better than the 824s and they translate perfect in every system i tried. If i'd ever change them i'd go for the HR-626, they are even better than the other Mackies.
A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life. |

Actually I read a quote from dynaudios lead engineer claiming that you can get just as good results with passives provided you use a good amp.
Technically the use of passive crossovers and close coupling of amp and driver in an active design have it's advantages.
But there also the fact that building in the amp in the cabinet can have a adverse result on the acoustics of the design, as well as the vibrations inside the cabinet can be detrimental for the amp.
Basically it varies a lot from make to make how well the actives fare against the passives and it's in my experience it's not always the case that the active is better.
The thing is that a good passive solution is not cheaper than an active. To get optimal results you should spend about the same on the amp as the speakers. But it does allow you to upgrade the parts individually or get the speakers new and look for a nice bargain on a s/h amp, which can be nice if you are an a budget.
After an amp died in my actives I'm more inclined to go passive if I have the choice.
@Quadra Helix
You definitely need some space behind a rear ported design, but the middle of the room is never a good idea.
