sounds a bit over the top for me...
I think if you want to let some parts of your music come out more you should just fix that in the mix
When im really satisfied with the mix i made, mastering is a piece of cake
Just compress and limit and it sounds really solid
I think its an undone job, because you have to judge every part of your music differntly and adjust all those little pieces to fit.
my 2 cents

i have been thinking about this dude.
if mastering in digital, automating the comp threshold in a clever way, and very subtely say in the range of 0.1-0.3db, this could be a nice way to get an analog feel. again i think you must be very careful. i would have it so the automation never does "less" comressing then intended, to preserve gain structure, and would aotuomate it only to the side of the more compressing.
i haven't experimented with this, just thoughts...

I think dynamic track automation should be the focus rather than the mastering.. |

dynamic mastering was made before the digital times when you cant control peaks & dynamic as well as these days.
also the music was more dynamic those days and needed special treat.

I've done it sometimes when there is severe problem with the track, like for example a lead that is far too strong that needs to be EQ'ed down a bit.
But for a well produced track it should not be needed.

i agree.
98% of the fact that a track sounds good is mix work. |

And how about "real" live-acts ?!
Incase I assume that live-acts who are using instruments like guitars etc. just mix them live into the track. So what are they making ? Just mixing the best way they can make it ? or is there any dynamic mastering in it ? for example to have influence by adding some specialities to the master. Just a question

p.s.: the one who finds orthographic mistakes can keep them |

also "live" parts you can record to audio & set everything in the mix.
dynamic mastering its for engineer who got final mixdown that he needs to master without the option to go back to the mix.
for trance producer its useless because you can control every milisecond with automations. |
