Just wondering how to use this technique properly. Duplicating a lead, panning one hard left and one hard right and slightly displacing the one by a couple of ms. Is this recommended for psy production when trying to make a lead more defined? Is the method right or have I missed a step?

How does it sound to you ?

Watch out for phase issues if you're using the same send fx (like reverb/delay) for both channels.

The problem when it comes to doing that is that its midi and digital so you won´t achieve the same results as if you were to play with lets say a guitar recorded with mics and amp.

yeah, phase complications are probably the biggest worry.

you can 'doubletrack' synth parts by carefully modulating key parameters slightly.

Vegetal - I don't see how there would be a difference ? Same production concept really.

Yes its the same concept yes, BUT it will not sound the same i´ve tried to achieve the feeling and sound of dubbed and panned guitar track and its NOT the same with a synth controlled with midi

First of all imho midi is so precise something a guitarplayer isn´t, every stringhit with the pick will sound diffrent compared to a synth which will most of the time sound the same for every hit ( unless you have some modulated controller on it). The human factor contributes so much to the sound.

It sounds pretty good, it was pretty much the one way that really helped the lead cut through the mix...What do you think?

It's the high end psychedelic scacattones that comes in at 0:14

i have better idea for doing that
will use to explain with the discovery/nord , with ABCD slots , but u can just duplicate your synth
not the .wav , the synth!

so now we have good sound on slot A (or synth 1)
we duplicate it to slot B , and change some parameters.
the ones i really like to mess with is the pwm , fm , filter , and sure lfo's on all those

now pan slot B to left

again paste to slot C , change some parameters (slightly , we dont talk on hole new layer)

pan slot C (or synth 3) to the right

bom!

ps - if all u want is that "spread" then just use chorus or flanger ?

Change the sound just very slightly, maybe offset the oscillator start point, take off the grid lock, shift some notes tiny amounts, make the velocities different and then stick your microphone up to the speaker and record it playing through the speakers. Try different distances and angles and then use that as your "other version"

In Ableton I often create two return tracks, and pan one hard left, and one hard right. There is track delay in milliseconds on everything in Live, so I adjust the right return track by 5 or so ms, and left by -5ms

Now I take my lead, it doesn't matter if it's audio or midi, and send some amount of it to both return tracks. It makes it a lot bigger, and wider.

You can probably do this in Cubase and Fruity Loops also.

Also I haven't been here in a while, hi!
