When I run 20 audio channels, my HD performace is in 10% capacity, so a quick calculation suggests that sure, you can run 128 audio channels all together (and I have only a p-3 850).
In fact, there's a program called saw studio, in which you can run 999 audio channel altogether, in theory at least...

i dont know if its my sound card or my cubase or just my lack of knowlege... but i just cant manage to make anything at home           "just when i was about to go out, they pulled me back in..."

Well i think that this is a dilemma that the software manufacturers should left to the users.
It's nice that the only thing that restraining you is your PC's ability. In my case, i think it's a big insult to allow my PC to use only 8 VST Channels.
Thumbs down to Steinberg, i hope they solved this matter in Cubase SX.
Anyways, thanx Leo, I'll be using your advice for now.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

Dekel:

1. Try to increase the disk block buffer in cubase to 64 or even more.

2. If the performance are still poor, go to the device manager under control panel/system, click on the + right to disk drives, stand on your hard disk and select properties. Than go to settings and make sure the DMA option is enabled. It'll have an effect only if your motherboard and HD support this option and are connected with a proper cable, I assume your does, since your CPU is kinda new. I got this tip from a wise man, and since than my audio performance are incredible.
