Definitely some good dubstep out there, and especially some of the deeper stuff is good, while I pretty much hate all the stuff with MC's. Generally I'm finding the style overrated though, but it's a matter of taste. Also, with all the ketamine at psytrance parties these days it's no wonder why it's big with people into psytrance...          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

well I guess that most hippies in Goa failed to make the connection betwen rock and electronic music back in the late 80s

Anyway, the thing I like most about dubstep is that it is such a broad genre, a lot like early trance used to be before it got subcategorized into a million different subgenres. As for the examples mentioned in this topic, well IMO they don't represent the genre pretty well, I mainly had more "rough" dubstep in mind like this (actually the beginning is pretty trancy )

...True. Dubstep is the baby born from dub and drum&bass/breakbeat. No connections with psytrance: sounds, energy, style... 2 totaly different worlds. Sometimes it can be close to techno, with a 4/4 kick joined to a "Reese bass"...MMM..This style is awsome and have a BIG potential.
I'm still looking for a real fusion beetween dub and techno/trance (i mean not only few tracks but all night long)...Last time i heard Zion train they played in this way. They finished their set at 170BPM with a kind of pumpin' hardtek-dub. Was so futuristic.

i would better say dubstep = "new age" fullon
or something similar, its not that original, not at all like early trance as you said, after all it comes from dub therefore reggae

not at all... you should really check out the links I've put, the "dub" element is basically inexistant. This music can range as far as rock-influenced, rap-influenced, trance-influenced, 80BPM to 130BPM, you can put the kicks anywhere you want, ranging from 4/4 to "normal" d&b to just about anything... it's cracy           “I think I've discovered the secret of life - you just hang around until you get used to it.”

in the end its all about personal taste
not bad to blend styles and everything
probably and personally i love steady vibes and steady "going" / "path" than so much fusion

Dubstep is huge because it's electronic music that's not too fast for the hip-hop crowd.

I don't listen to much dubstep, but I do enjoy it. I do like other genres that are dub-influenced too (like chill/downtempo stuff).           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

I wouldn't mind seeing some dubstep influenced psytrance...it's always a plus when producers branch out a bit and find new ideas in another genre..

but by itself I find dubstep rather boring and depressive and can't really dance do it           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records
