also, i think i should mention, that while some dubstep is rather juvenile and obnoxious to the point of absurdity, at least some of those artists are brilliantly talented, and I would suspect, are just having fun with it... laughing at themselves and their genre.
case in point:
personally, I find the sense of humor in a lot of dubstep really refreshing, and I like artists/fans who don't take themselves too seriously... IMO, some elements of the psytrance scene could use a bit more of that attitude =P

K, listened to a bunch of omega and the bird of prey stuff. It's produced well for sure, but I don't like the style - no disrespect to the producers, its obvious that a lot of people *do* like it.
Something about the wobble bass is just very offsetting/aggressive *to me*, and it definitely doesn't make me want to dance. I'm sure people feel that same way about full-on, or progressive, or electro, or house, or any other genre of music out there but I don't feel the need to berate them and try to troll them for my own amusement.
I don't think that's 'crying' about it - its just a difference of opinion. Continue to berate my lack of enthusiasm for dubstep if you will..but don't be such a douche about it if you can avoid it please. There is a difference between saying "I don't like this" and being intentionally antagonistic.
I will admit that my comment earlier about it being music for people who do too much E is a bit harsh, and unduly colored by my one and only experience with dubstep at a festival (where everyone was either looking for E, or talking about how dubstep is great on a lot of E - didn't hear any mention of hallucinogens, which is what I expected at a 'psy' event).
I'm all for experimenting and other genres besides 'stereotypical full-on,' I feel that psytrance has been getting too formulaic as of late and needs new influences...but I just plain and simple really dislike the wobble.
as for the humor part - I like humor and funzies as much as the next guy, but not particularly in my psytrance. I'm there for the trance dance experience which to me is a sacred, beautiful, ancient ritual and I tend to take it kind of seriously - not so seriously that I don't laugh at a funny sample or a funky beat...sometimes thats fantastic - all things in moderation.
It's different when I go to a multi-genre event, or a progressive event, or an electro event where the intention is more light-hearted fun.
In the end, everything is subjective and up to the unique individual - all we can do is try to be respectful in our disagreements where they occur. If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Yeah, chris, its me!
we should make a track some time....
and will:
download nod's GMSF 2008 mix and listen to the first track. just listen. then keep listening. the wobbles come later....
or the eskmo colorbrain mix. almost no wobble, but lots of awesome. If you can't get down with "let them sing...." I really don't know what to say.
call me a douche if you want to, but I've seen your posts all over isra and nwpsy, and i gotta say, you've insulted basically everything I like. fast psytrance, music with a sense of humor, dubstep, irreverence, BEER....I just had to call you out at some point.
you seem to me to be my least favorite kind of trancer: the Self-Righteous True Believer.
the "psytrance is my religion" kid. seriously, go listen to some music that isn't released on a psytrance label. variety is the spice of life.
if you don't like something, there are better ways to deal with it than bitching on a forum. i know you make music. it's actually pretty good. why aren't you doing that right now?
(and before you try to turn it around on me, I have ableton open right now. Working on a funny, atmospheric dubstep song. with very little wobble)

If that's what you get from me, then either I have done something incredibly wrong, or you are horribly misinterpreting me.
I am actually about to head out to a progressive show in portland (May, Yo!) so I'll try and keep this relatively brief and to the point, though I will probably fail.
1) I absolutely love psytrance and goa, I love dancing to it, I love how it affects my brain - but it is not my religion, nor do I think it will cure the world of all evils. I also am completely cool with people NOT liking it, and understand their reasons. My own girlfriend can't stand most of the shit I listen to, and so I *try* not to judge other people's taste in music though I admittedly fail sometimes. I strive to not be one of 'those trancers'
2) I like fast psy. Sometimes. In the appropriate timeslot. Some of the dark stuff is actually really really good, but just like every other genre on the planet there is a lot of really horrible shit, and I can't get down with it in the day time.
3) Sofar, I just plain don't like dubstep, or at least the stuff I've listened to sofar - I will give those mixes a shot later when I have some free time as I do truly want to expand my musical horizons, but I reserve the right to not like something because of just that reason and no other - that I don't like it.
4) Irreverence - I love humor, I love laughing, but if its the middle of the night and im extremely altered and speeding through hyperspace I personally like music that is designed with the intent of expanding your consciousness and taking you into the next dimension to show you what is beyond this reality. That to me is 'srs business' and the main reason why I go to psy events (besides meeting new awesome people of course)
5) beer. I am admittedly a very very strange person - I cannot stand cigarettes, I have no taste for beer, I think it tastes awful...I like girly sugary citrus drinks, like mikes hard lemonade, margaritas, I like the 'worst' wine. Make fun of me if you will, many people do I don't like drunk people, and I think that alcohol abuse is a rampant evil in this world.
As for the music part - my music sucks, its very juvenile and I kick myself every day for spending years and years in front of video games instead of making music, but I will fix that every day for the rest of my life - all during this discussion I have actually been working on my latest track in Ableton
I do actually listen to music besides psy, although admittedly not as much as I probably should. Looking back on my posts in this thread, while there was some douchebaggery (the E comment), it was tempered in an admittance of my lack of experience in dubstep and I have repeatedly asked for examples of good dubstep, it just so happens that what has been posted is not to my liking!
The thing I don't understand is your hostility when we have never met in person - its really hard to get someones true meaning via text when you've never met them in real life - maybe we'll have a chance to rectify that at some point and we'll come to a better understanding...even if you like dubstep
anyways, off to May, Yo! if anyone is in the portland area they should come check it out....

I read the thread obviously so yes I have and Omega is proper. Its just, I guess Symbiosis spoiled me. It was a completely different style than what is produced now. No let me re-word that the music that played then fit my taste in a more complete sense than what I've heard recently. And pointing out Omega who actually posted in this thread is not helping so much. No diss to Omega though keep on the rampage mate! Its a pleasure to hear your music.
Mabye I've mislead ya'll into thinking I don't know any artists lol. Sorry if I have, but Raindance Nexus and the like are my home. Eprom, Heyoka, Eskmo, Excision, Burial, Vibesquad, Digital Mystikz, Majatope, widdler, Caspa, Cotti and Clue, headhunter, Ripple... I have seen them all live except Excision. Plus countless DJ's and other acts I can't think of atm. I just don't have the same connection with dubstep that I once had. The Music that has me loving life is Beats Antique.
Bird of Prey I have not heard before and damn its on hit!!! Thank You for pointing that out Omega.
P.S. I really like Eskmo/Welder btw
