Trying to understand what is exactly the reason to mix Psytrance with dubstep?

More people attending?

I mean really there is NO CONNECTION between Psytrance and Dubstep. In the same logic why not mix Psytrance and Happy Hardcore or House or Trip Hop or Breakbeats or Jungle or Drum n Base?

I am not trying to shit on the parade but it seems that USA is the only place that in the last year has started mixing Dub Step and Psytrance.

if I had to venture a guess, I'd say Burning Man is somehow involved....           "Every generation needs a new revolution." ~Thomas Jefferson

OK, mister complainer, where do I start... For one, the BPM. It is about the same—~140. Therefore, in an experimental fashion, it is very easy to beatmatch the two genres.
I've heard some really nice instances of doing so.

Check out Random and Chromatone - Dub Divider (http://www.djtunes.com/chromatone/lovevolution-various-artists/dub-divider__552741), it is a fantastic psy track with a dub section in the middle.

dubstep is the current craze among burners and if you can't fill your festival with trancers, burners are the next best thing

that's my guess anyway.

had my first experience with dubstep at the last festival I went to - felt like my ears were being raped. over and over again. I'm not entirely closed off to the possibility of there being good dubstep out there, but it just seems like music for people who like to do too much E.

I had always wanted to go to burning man, until I heard that there was no psytrance and tons of dub-step. fuck that.

This question seems to presuppose that psytrance parties are supposed to be exclusively psytrance... which, from where I'm standing, seems sort of elitist and snobby... but I'm probably more vehemently opposed to single-genre elitism than most.

That being said, I really don't think it's that party organizers are specifically trying to force dubstep on the trancer crowd, but rather that many organizers recognize that some attendees like to have an alternative to the psytrance stage, and it makes sense to include the most popular other genres of electronic music - which at the moment certainly includes dubstep.

Plus, as Basilisk said, dubstep can be psychedelic - and there is some really great crossover stuff between psy and dubstep - Bird of Prey being the best example I can think of. No disrespect, but your declaration that there is "NO CONNECTION between psytrance and dubstep" seems pretty ignorant... Though, being a psytrance producer/DJ who has recently started producing and spinning dubstep myself, it's no surprise that I would take exception to that sort of comment

fwiw, here's an example of my efforts to make psychedelic dubstep:

What's the connection, or Where is the connection should be the question?

Dubstep is influenced by reggae and it has a lot of delay/feedback, certain trends if you listen to this music a lot. It has a hip hopish vibe to it. A lot of people in California identify to Hip-Hop/Rock/Electronic.

Maybe thats the connection

I will freely admit that my experience with dubstep is very limited - one festival, ~5 different djs/acts - but if what I heard is at all indicative of what dubstep is, then I want absolutely nothing to do with it. I'm sure that just like every other music genre on the planet there is some of it thats worthwhile, but that shit was just plain bad. Raping my ears is an understatement. I dislike the wobbling and I certainly couldn't 'get there' on it in terms of the trance dance. The track that omega posted is much better than the stuff that was being played, but I'm just not into that style from what I've heard of it.

True story - friends and I were chilling on the chillout/dubstep stage sunday afternoon at a fest recently. While we were being gifted with an exceptional dub/downtempo set I was talking with the guy that was about to do a dubstep set. Cool guy, seemed nice and all - but we literally couldn't stand the music for more than 2 minutes. we fled. Went from blissed out peace to complete sonic assault, and not in a good way.

Tried it out a couple of times over the course of the weekend, and not once did I hear anything I would like to listen to again.

But yeah to each their own, lots of people like lots of music that I don't and I'm cool with that - I just wish that they wouldn't play it at psy festivals

Because a lot of people enjoy it? Why not toss some edm into the mix of things? It's not like people are putting a dubstep act on at midnight in the middle of psytrance acts- are they?

Point number one - I am not a big fan of dubstep. I care for it about as much as I care for house, if that says anything... But, I see nothing wrong with having more than one genre of music at a festival, especially if it's a multi-stage party. The promoters need to get the flow and placement right, but beyond that, why not...

Point number two - Omega's "Hypnotoad" track is the lick. Ya'll should check it out. While doing so, please reference point number one....
