Many ppl recommended the martox for audio machines a few years ago. Even though it's sold still, it might seem a bit dated now. But what i understand it's still very good in 2d performance, really 32mb is quite enough for 2d.
If you want to play a game sometimes you can get a dual head radeon 9200 with 128mb for about the same price. Gainward for example make one with dual head for about $60 or so.
But if you know you going to do only audio, then the matrox would maybe still be the better one. |

Alternatively you can pick up a TNT2 PCI card for around $20 and use it combination with any old AGP card. (Windows only supports certain chipsets with that setup, the TNT2 being one of them). |

I would never stick a PCI gfx card in my audio machine....also prefearrably not any old AGP, but definatly a dual head. |

Why not? Performance?
I had no idea that the graphics card had an impact on audio performance... (maybe I should consider getting a dual-head?).

Allow me to contradict,
and say from experience - that 32mb for 2D maybe is enough - but not for smooth dual screen operation.
I had a Matrox g450 - 2 screens connected it was working rather bad. Bad when it came to audio performance / disaplying everything on time.
And that card costs .....
I decided to do something about it, and bought the cheapest gforce fx5200 with dual screen action - with 128mb.
All problems were gone, and much more CPU started to be available for the sequencer.
So let me all tell ya, don't let 2D confuse you... The graphic engine of the cheapest gforce outran my super-duper matrox g450 without a prob.
I suspect it has more to do than just with the memory on it.

Ok Trip-, if you say so....
I added a maybe, because I haven't used one recently myself. I have a mate who uses a G550 on his setup and thinks it's great still, but I guess it depends on the rest of the hardware.
Frankly i don't feel so fanatic about performance anymore anyway. The machines is fast enough as it is today, without squeezing every drop out of them.
Therefore I also use a cheap 3dgfx card, since I'm not worried about installing games and stuff on my audio machine. |

All you data going between sequencer and soundcard is also going on the PCI bus. AGP is completly separate, and therefore you get a better bandwidth on your PCI bus if you stick to AGP gfx card.
Why some cards suck more CPU power than other though is not something i understand, but it seems to happen. |
