if youre a drummer, get drums
if youre into electronic music production, get good samples and a sampler ...
but even if you are a drummer, get the samples and the sampler imho

Drum-machines are fun but not as versatile as vitual drum-machines, in the sense that theres no hassle with a virtual machine, since it's already plugged in and hooked up in any way it pleases you in your sequencer. Hardware drum-machines are just a pain with all the caples and midi, and having to record the audio and re-recording each time you want to change a few parameters. If you switch of the machine your settings are gone unless you remembered to save your settings in a pattern, but then when you open your track again in your sequencer you need to remember wich pattern you saved your settings in. IMO using actual hardware is a huge hassle compared to using software. However actual hardware is more fun to tweak.
I don't think it matters much for the sound, whether you use one or the other, but it might matter to your creative process. |
