I spent a long time wrestling with this same problem, how to come up with my own good rhythms. Long story short, I eventually had to get a hand drum and just learn from experience.
There may be good tutorials about how to drum, but for me it took getting into the groove with other drummers to learn how rhythms interact and support each other.
Rhythm is the art of time distortion, by dividing the listener's time into segments and than manipulating them in an intelligent way.
Take Setfan's advice, listen very closely to other artist's percussion (especially in other genres). Try listening not to the entire percussion piece but rather one element - you'll find that each track has very simple percussion. It's the whole thing, with all those polyrhythms, that sounds complicated.
I'd be happy to answer questions/blab more if you like, sorry I don't have a link to a good online tutorial.
Stick with it, it's only a matter of time.
Peace,
