I have a very bad musical ear which means that it is very difficult for me to tune things by ear .in the past I have herd that some people tune their drum parts e.g. kick with bass. Or percussion, snare, kick .how do u do it ? EQ., listing, frequency scopes what ?,Im a bit lost.

I usually use a sampler that will allow you to tune the sample itself. Battery is good for stuff like that.

Umm... I am not sure that I quite understand that question... Tuning things by ear means listening to the sample in the context of the track to make sure it sounds in tune. If it doesn't sound in tune, then I use the tune knob on Battery and play with it till it sounds right... Or, you can use a frequency analyser to see where the main resonant frequency is and make sure it is complimentary to the key of the track..

invite someone with good ears and let him show you how to do it, you will have to learn yourself in the end and trust your own ears, so practice a lot... |

Shilshoolon, trust your ears. If you can't hear the difference you're probably close enough |

well... i'm a drummer, and what i do when i put on a new skin is just ping the A440 note on my e-piano and slowly make it tighter and tighter untill i believe it's in tune with the 440 (a snare drum should always be tuned to 440). All completely by ear, and it seems to work (although i can't really hear what the note is on my snare, you can pinpoint the moment it sounds harmonic with the 440 quite accurately... It just feels exactly right then), never had complaints about it... First tie i did it i just tightened it untill i couldn't make it tighter... Afterwards i had to change all the new skins because that's not the way to do it
hope this was usefull... Cuz this isn't really something of the electronic world... But now u do know that a snaredrum should always be 440Hz |

By ear
Practice and you will get it trust me. One
idea is to make it totally out of tune so it sounds bad. Then move the tune back closer and your ears will start learning how its supposed to sound. |
