V/A Druid’s Potion vol.1 [Mandragore Records]

Druid Potion is a 100% frenchy newcomers compilation focusing on uplifting full on, it’s also the first release from the new french parisian Mandragore label hold by Jyppé from Tranceshop.com (Trance french site, not to confund with Trance-Shop the online shop from Germany).

Tracklist :

1. Stimulus ft Dj Kzymodo – Atomic Experience

Stimulus (Fred Kiszon) ft Dj Kzymodo (Seb Manson) begins with an aquatic intro through an harp melody (that will come back later on). A charm provocated in few seconds & remaining all along. For the rest, the atmosphere is smelling like is very springish.

2. Rasti – Slapback

Rasti (Jean Salomon) keep going this way with bouncy & brisk sounds. If you’re into bicycle you’ll be fond of the intro & outro. The bassline is Zébulon-ish (Zébulon is a little character always jumping everywhere near a merry-go-round in a french old well known program for child ‘Le manège enchanté‘. It means that Slapback got a calm morning atmosphere which sometimes get facetious, so it results a cross between oniric & childish emotionnal feeling here.

3. Crystal Visions – Nocturn Activity

Crystal Vision (Frédéric Kiszon aka Stimulus + Alexandre Joly) makes you penetrate into a more usual full on dimension, consequently dancefloor. Kicks are more pushed, sounds are clear but less original compared to the 2 previous stuffs. Nocturn Activity reveals itself an effective full on producion without being revolutionary.

4. Shagma – Big One

Shagma (Laurent Fassier aka Fasspot + Jean Salomon aka Rasti) is still on the dancefloor full on way with an intro a la ‘Morphem-Hypnotone’, i mean an old crooner 10 seconds while his voice gets detuned like if he was deflating. So except the intro, it’s a typical squeaking full on stuff in a C.P.U style.
You are enjoying melodic, twisted, energic & muscular full on, Big One will suit you.

5. Phonic Request – Martyre

Phonic Request (Wilfried Decaesteker) enters a dryer, matter full on register. The aim of Martyre is a psychotic trip according to me dredged with some few psychedelic tones, so it could result much more difficult to catch for most of you. Don’t be afraid if your first listening don’t satisfyed you, let’s give it another chance & it could only improve your perception of the tune.

6. Polypheme ft Moon Sphynx – Spider Sens

Polypheme (Christophe Donna aka Dj Cyclope ) ft Moon Sphynx (Laure Moreno aka Dj Miss Jump) have built a
throbbing groove fullonish stuff. I’m not fan of the lead, otherwise the musical tone is quite mat. I think the artists have tryed to develop a climatic production, unfortunatly for me the goal is only partially achieved due to a certain lack of depht & amplitude in sounds, harmonies & rythmic. Nevertheless Spider Sens would deserve to be auto-remixed or get a new lifted version, only good things could result from that.

7. Magnetik Fusion ft Lady Arwen – Move Your Ass To Mars

Magnetik Fusion (Jean Christophe Perrin) ft Lady Arwen (Eléonore Saumur) tackle an hypnotic whirling trance way (the whirling side only happens after 3’00) in Move Your Ass To Mars. Percussions can be noticed around 5’00 in order to increase the hypnotical power, closely followed at 5’15 with a shrill lead which will mute into 303 loops just after & during a very short time. Indeed the construction, the rising up & the quick etheral final reminds mea lot ‘Trancition’ from Chocci & the Freedom Of Sound (acidtrance song from 1992) ; corrosive night full on lovers with rising in stages will be delighted.

8. United Spirit – De Esser

United Spirit (Emmanuel Scaillierez) contarily to other artist on this compilation got a proper sound, even if we can admitt some virtual influences in the fat electric guitar from Tim Schuldt. The spirit of the tune is more muffled, subtle, floating by moment & simply musical therefore i’m convinced people will prefer easier production from Crystal Visions & Shagma from this compilation.

9. Shadow Wax – Phénopsychedelik

Shadow Wax (Laurent Caffin) evoluates in the night full on sphere, the atmosphere is foggy & scheming. A soound half synth, half female voice closes in on us from beginning & after 1’50, like a physical intererior call which would doze in you. Phénopsychedelik bolts a bit from that point, elements are going faster & begin to swarm. From 5’00 a more twangy synth arrives, that’s a pity as it breaks a bit the charm on the final ; though the tune is still remaining very trippy.

Highlights by order:2,1,9,7
Then : 4,3,8,5,6

7/10 Wishing that numerous vol will follow this first Druid’s Potion & that Mandragore will keep helping french or whatever country origin newcomers to get their first tracks released on a label.
