this happened to me and still happens....im starting to guess its because of the mood you are in the mood that the place where you make your music puts you in....also i think its easier to get darker sounds than cheerful happy once (just my opinion)...so anyways im starting to get some happy sounding tracks...this is how i did it.....i used to produce music in a spare bedroom I have at my house....and there is only one window there and the room is painted brown...for some reason everytime I walked inthere this weird vibe came over me it was kind of dark and gloomy......so i decided i was gonna paint the room a more lively color....but I was like fuck that i need it now.....so I changed everything to my living room and there is sun coming in from everywhere...the room is a pale yellow color so its brighter...and i also open up the curtains all the way so that i am able to see the sky outside and the sunset and eveytime i get to my house it just puts me in a good mood to have my studio set up in there....it works for me....also another thing is that i picture my girl and i think well if i get really good at this then i will be able to spend more time with her....and lastly I open up my favorite cheerful song at this time...that fits the type of music i try to create and just try to copy it as much as I can....it really does help....also you have to be truly judgamental about this....if you have a killer bass line but it does not fit the mood...save it for later and start again and again and then you will keep on getting that much closer..... and most importatnly DONT GIVE UP!!! KEEP AT IT!!

moved to another house some time ago, still going, but as @chemogen said, i embraced it, and the track i'm making is turning out the most killer one i've ever made

ya, agreed, the thing to do is just go with it.

you shouldnt play or produce music, you should let music play you and create you           --

YES embrace it its the best thing you can do....but every so often you will find yourself wanting to create cheerful tracks....remember that we must also work on our weaknesses and not just max out strenghts....that to me is the true mastery of music to be able to do with the peoples feelings whatever you want....not just what comes out although this is good too( not really sure what ill do lets see what comes out type of deal) but thats just me....anyways wish you good luck and all the best

well i also make electronic music for clubs, not the typical electro crap but good heavy 130 bpms electronic tracks, and those don't turn out dark, i mean, i can upload a couple, and you can decide for yourself

edit: just found out ektoplazm is no longer accepting demos, wat a disappointment :/

awesome and so true...
if you use music as a way of expressing yourself and tell about you , music that is true to yourself. you will sound instantantly more unic , more authentic and make more intresting tunes imo. just my opinion.

i even think the music should be unclassable to be the best the artist can make ..or it s not totally true and it s made to fit in a genre. maybe i m wrong on this but for me it s like this , just to say let make a psytrance tune, is already narrowing creativty to fit in a genre for me, i exagerate a little , it s still quiet open but you see what i mean
