i mean, everything i create within the psychedelic scene turns out darker than expected, and i don't consider my music dark trance, nah, not even close, forest a bit yea, but not dark, but for ie, i'm building a new tune, developed a superb kick and bass combo, making the intro and shit, but that's just it, the intro is turning out a lot darker than it was supposed to be, and i'm constantly falling into this crap
any suggestions to ease the dark crap out? thx for reading

Try using cheerfull stuff.. Go for melodic scales or "Happy" scales, and take advantadge of harmony.. Or groove something out with some pentatonics or blues!
Show us some examples so we can help! What exactly do you make, and what do you want to make?

maybe try some different scales and chord progressions? major scales usually tend to be happier and minor usually tends to be darker... maybe try writing a few melodies then go from there?

Try making your intro later! start your song and try not to play very dramatic chords, for example: a simple chord is made of 3 notes!! the middle note is the one that gives intention to the chord, by only moving de middle note one semitone you can jump from minor sacales to mayor scales ( basic scales) so I dont know the terminology in english for this type of chord, but when you only play de first and the last note of the chord( do not play the one in the middle), you will take a lot of intention or feeling from the chord, but it will sound great too, I use that technique when everything is sounding to cheese or to darky!! I stop giving emotional intention to my chords and it keeps the sound in a more neutral plane! I hope I explain my self correctly im a bit stoned hehe anyways good day!! |

+1
probably this is just your style sitting deep in your mind
don't try to cheat yourself. look that most of artist make one kind of music and they are the best in it. i'm also another guy who make more "dark" music (not darkpsy) and sometimes i make happy tunes (i also make other genres but this is different story) but my listeners always told me that my dark stuff sounds best.
just be true and make music from your heart
if you really want to make more happy music just prepare for this before: listen a lot of music in that kind, smoke some happy weed or go for standup show. dive into happy vibrations

i was about to upload the intro i'm currently making but nah, ppl don't need spam right now, but anyway i kinda don't like 'happy' music, i like psychedelic trance music that has something to grab onto to, deep layers of understanding within each track and kind of developing an inner state of mind as i hear this deep trance (not deep bass'. it's for sure a complex situation for me and i believe there are others struggling to keep this thin line between night/forest trance and darkpsy intact.
personally i dislike darkpsy, the constant darkish bass/kick combo and the fast uptempo beats, kinda gets old, it's much better (for me anyways) a tune around 140/142 bpms that has lots of details to keep the listener attached but also that allows the producer to build intense beats/leads.
point is: it's an everyday struggle for me

judging by your first track on soundcloud, not using a dark-sounding k/b and not using darkpsy leads could go a long way.
there are plenty of twisted-but-not-dark tracks with a darkish atmosphere (that apperantly comes to you naturally) but with smooth crystal clear leads. logic bomb imho does that masterfully. if you take for example 'drop by anytime' and mentally replace the leads with screechy, noisy ones and the kick and bass with a low darkpsy rumble, it would lose its not-happy-and-not-dark-but-purely-psychedelic feeling and would be like just another darkpsy track |

this happened to me and still happens....im starting to guess its because of the mood you are in the mood that the place where you make your music puts you in....also i think its easier to get darker sounds than cheerful happy once (just my opinion)...so anyways im starting to get some happy sounding tracks...this is how i did it.....i used to produce music in a spare bedroom I have at my house....and there is only one window there and the room is painted brown...for some reason everytime I walked inthere this weird vibe came over me it was kind of dark and gloomy......so i decided i was gonna paint the room a more lively color....but I was like fuck that i need it now.....so I changed everything to my living room and there is sun coming in from everywhere...the room is a pale yellow color so its brighter...and i also open up the curtains all the way so that i am able to see the sky outside and the sunset and eveytime i get to my house it just puts me in a good mood to have my studio set up in there....it works for me....also another thing is that i picture my girl and i think well if i get really good at this then i will be able to spend more time with her....and lastly I open up my favorite cheerful song at this time...that fits the type of music i try to create and just try to copy it as much as I can....it really does help....also you have to be truly judgamental about this....if you have a killer bass line but it does not fit the mood...save it for later and start again and again and then you will keep on getting that much closer..... and most importatnly DONT GIVE UP!!! KEEP AT IT!! |
