I developed dreads in the back of my head inadvertently from doing lots of situps every day (hands behind my head). I surf and play at the beach a lot so when I finally cut them off they were full of sand! Funny but kinda nasty.

hahaha
nice one dude

If i am not mistaken dont the Sadhus rub the ash form the bodies which have been cremated on to their bodies and hair and get those awesome locks. Correct me if i m wrong.

maybe the aghori sadhus, but not all the holy ash is from the cremation ground, and yes ash is offcourse part of the process, but they dont put the ash to make the dreadlocks, maybe you saw the aghori on youtube washing his hair with ashes and water?
ahses is not enough to make dreadlocks
for making this kind of dreadlocks, sometimes you need more then a year...

No i seen it on documentary on these sadhus hey not the aghori ones was very interesting. I know that ashes is not enough. But then the dreads they developed was very different which i kinda liked.

It is difficult to crack a corporate interview with dreadlocks
Mushrooms make you do crazy stuff. Look at Mario he jumps on animal heads and fights with dragons.

I had dreads for 11 years and cut them off in order to take a job offer in Japan. It was worth it! Now I'm all about the stealth...           www.nw-psy.com - Pacific NW Psychedelic Trance

Im sorrounded by dreadlockers. .

my advice is "dont get them"..
compare it to a jamaican making his hair straight and blond...

plus...i dont know about natural way and chemical way..but trust me they do smell on many ppl...

and let me add...
a real good friend with dreads...cut them after a holiday in Jamaica...he told me that there he realized how funny white people look with dreads (to blacks).. not to mention the jamaicans making fun of him and some even threatening to kick his ass cus considered it a disrespectful thing. .

but again...
if YOU like them...get them. you can always cut it off...

Dreadlocks are not exclusively a jamaican/afro thing. Think about people in the past- way back in the past. Before they realized the need of a comb they all had dreads. Even when people found a way to comb their hair, i am convinced many chose to have dreads instead of "normal" hair because it made more sense. If you don't cut your hair it will get awfully long and long hair gets in the way when hunting/foraging let alone we don't know what a silly task it is to cut hair using a flint stone

Dreadlocks (almost) always look good on females. With guys, it's all matter of where you come from. Southern European types and Israelis should have no problems rocking dreads- it just fits them. Whoever you are though, if you are just a poser you will be scorned for your dreads- i know white guys who think they will get respect from afro people just for having dreads...it's not the case.           the sky was pink

My mate experienced something similar being a white fella with dread (15 years!) going to Jamaica.

He was threatened verbally & abused because it was considered an insult. It ended up after he talked to an elder local there that it was because he did not practice the religion/belief system that they did.

He went with this elder over there and got them cut off, he said it was sad to see them go but also felt good.

It's weird seeing my mate without dread, but I gotta say he looks much better without them.

I just think that like all things that come from a cultural/religious back ground, if you're not directly of that culture/religion, make sure you check it all out before you accidentally insult the people of that background.

I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

i have dreads since 11 years and where ever i go (especially africa) most locals like it and react very positive... it can be tiring being called hey rasta etc 50 times a day...
im also sure dreads avoided me getting mugged or in a fight sometimes... and it keeps you away from ignorant people you dont even want to know           www.sangomarecords.com

Ironically..I have a Jamaican friend that gets insulted in the opposite way that when people as him why he doesn't have dreadlocks its kind of like "because im not Rastafari dumbass".

I'm sure a lot of christians and jews would be insulted if wearing a cross or yamaka as a fashion statement stood out like a white dude with dreads in Jamaica.

I would love to have them but I would think I would look like a tool with my complexion.          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_in_a_vat

i think i'm just gonna do it.

I've thought about what some said regarding how the sadhus do it and the ancient dreadlocked cavemen, but i think i'm going to invest in having this pro do it up proper so i can get off on the right foot. it will also be a good excuse to go hang out in a city i am unfamiliar with. I went about 4 or 5 days without combing and it was already starting to clump but i could see how grimey it was going to look (just take a look at some sadhus, or goa gil for that matter...). yeah yeah, i'm not the real deal dirty hippy just letting em form, but I think i'll be happier with nice looking dreads. I'm going to remove my lip ring when I get it done because I've had it a long time and i want to play didj without removing it. I've decided its the proper trade. people are telling me that they can see me with dreads, some even saying that i look incomplete without them. so yeah, i think i'm gonna be that guy for a while

i have a very white complexion (northern maine/canadian english) so I have heeded the advice given about jamaicans/rastafari, but i don't really care what they think. reggae is good and all, but they didn't invent dreadlocks and a huge percentage of that demographic are strongly racist and brutally anti-gay....not really trying to impress them. I just want to have dreads because they look cool and fun and i'm young with lots of hair. I'll make sure go on caribbean holiday somewhere less hostile than jamaica

sadhus genreally make their dreads by burnt banana leaves ash, ( something to do with sticky properties of the nbanana leaf) , and paste it on the wet hair, making the appropriate dreads with hands,, and keeping it under wraps for a week, but i'd suggest you get it done properly, and yes they stink , and yes u might get fleas in ur hair, and yes they do itch , and yea they rule ! ahaha but when you shave them off, you become a new person as well,

I have a friend that is quite often there(jahmaica),and has never expirienced any problems. Was always good.He is white as snow.
..apart of this rastas are not the only ones that have dreads, even neanderthals had some.
But a lot of people in our world are just racists,in some corners if you are not black enough you are not really welcome,in others if you have a pure heart you can be what you are no matter how you look like.
No matter what corner of our planet, everywhere are open minded people but idiots too.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden
