Ladies & gentlemen, I am proud to present you an interview with one of the hottest newcomers in 2008:
DOMATECK - who are Meir Azoulay & Asher Sabag, both from Dimona/Israel.
1. Meir & Asher, you have both a rich experience in making trance. What’s your musical background, when did you show the first interest in producing electronic (trance) music?
Meir: I have got a strong connection to music by the special elements of vocals, melodies and power passes for many years now and felt very big drawing to turn into realization the ideas in my head and my hands.
Asher: Well, as a little kid I felt a very strong connection to this groove build, kick line and groove that seemed to separate me from reality when I listened to it, later on I got a connection to the rest of the elements such as the melodies, power entrances, SOUND FX'S and finally I saw myself very curious to create my own stuff and to realize the ideas in myself.
2. You both had separated projects before joining forces to “Domateck”. Tell us a little bit about these former projects – which kind of music (already psy trance or a completely different style) …
Meir: Well I had a solo project called "Zodiac" and released tracks on a few labels such USTA Records for example. I totally can describe my former style as soft emotional melodic full-on.
Asher: I had a dark project and played on some underground parties. Besides, I invested a lot of time in sound producing and could acquire a lot of technical knowledge about producing music.
3. When did you finally meet and decide to work together as Domateck? Why did you choose Domateck as your artist name? Is there a special meaning behind it or is it just a fantasy word creation?
After a lot of time of producing, getting experience of what people love, many vice-versa influences at the parties where we played, we decided to join forces, create one project and to bring both of us to a higher level by optimizing the realization of our ideas.
DO Meir Asher Technology it's the meaning of DOMATECK.
4. How would you describe the typical Domateck style? Which are unique elements in your music that makes it special?
Our music can be described as powerful music with elements of emotion, a high level of sound production, all aimed for the dance floor. We are trying our best to make our music different from other artists and to make our sound unique - the best prove for that is our debut album – that consists of many different styles of music.
5. You have already had several releases on various labels and soon your debut album will be released on Magma Records. When will it be out, what may we expect from your fist bomb? Is the title already fixed?
Actually yes we have a title for the album "Beat The Beast", this album can be described solid DOMATECK style, including full power beats, dreamy, emotional melodies, rough edged breaks, with high production standards.
6. Magma Records seems to be one of the continuously uprising labels these days. Its Headquarter is based in Italy and the artists signed there are international.
How does the communication/cooperation/promotion work? Do you feel fully supported and good promoted?
We really have to admit that this label is different from most of the labels today due to its special warm attitude for the artists, the honesty, and the fairness between artists and of course the great promotion done for us.
7. Meir and Asher, what about your performances so far? Have you already had some international gigs? If yes, which was the best one? If no, in which country / on which continent would you like to perform first and why?
Well we have already played in Israel, Mexico & Russia; soon we are going to hit Mexico again, Brazil, Portugal, Denmark and more countries until end of this year.
8. What do you think about the actual development of psy trance towards commerce? Festivals are getting bigger and bigger, the former familiarity has nearly completely disappeared (exception: Austria).
Is this development good or bad (from your point of view as artists and from your point of view as an “ordinary” psy trance-lover).
Well as for us artists it's one point of view and for the psy trance lovers and all music lovers it's another point of view, for example the net use: for the artists this is a huge promotion platform and engine by sharing music, the possibility to promote via web sites etc. Nevertheless, too much commerce is constantly damaging the quality of each release to the market.
9. Which artists/projects have influenced you? Are there any special people, situations for example that have already inspired your work? Where do you get your inspirations from in general?
We can’t say that there is a specific artist or project that has mainly inspired our work. However, we got influenced by a lot of styles of music – not only just psy trance. Our biggest influence/inspiration however, is full power for/from the dance floor.
10. A life without music would be…?
Meir: empty
Asher: Unhappy
