Ok..Im very sure im not the ONLY one this happens too.
Here's a conversation i usually have with ppl who have no idea what im talkin abt ! Read on!! 
Person : Hey so what kinda music u like?
Me : I listen too quite a bit of Psychedelic trance and Chillout stuff.
Person : Oh so u like techno music ..
Me : umm...Its not really techno..its got a lotta psychedelic sounds and the Bpm's much quicker.
Person : Right right..somethn like House/MOS?
Me : Nope!! Not House or Minstry O Sound either. maybe uve heard of Goa style Trance??
Person : Yeah..My buddy plays it all the time...Watsisname.. Oakenfold right?
Me : Noooo..Oakenfolds progressive  trance..im talkin abt PSYCHEDELIC trance.
Person : Whats the difference ???
Me : The difference is ... im gonna stick my foot right up ur F***ING ARSE!!!  
okkk..mayb the last bit doesnt happen. But its close enuf..
This happens alllll the time. maybe less if i lived in a more psy aware country. But I dont 
If uve never faced a conversation like this then ur LUCKY. If u have then .. feel free to jot down ur episode.

What abt the 'BLANK LOOK"..anybody gets that..
The "DUH"?..
I mean..im not an expert in world music or the different genres but i profess i do know a lil bit abt them...maybe not the movers and shakers of that particualr genre..but atleast i can figure out what the other guys TALKIN abt!!!..
But u seldom see that in people who havent a clue.

If i get asked that question... I just say, "I listen to goa, and ambient'. Note... I do not say trance as they leads people to think its something its not. Most of the time they don't know what it is, and my response is... "Most people don't." And, I leave it at that. |

Thats very unfriendly and narrow minded.
Do u really think psytrance is the only 'real' music, and what is 'real' music for u?
I would never talk to friends or people i meet in this way, and this shows them disrespect from the 'real music scene' what is not part of it or should not be part of it.

i got this...
person: "trance!? hehehe... do u make trance?!?! its very simple music to creat..."
and i think... lets see u doing a 5 man band work plus sound enginer and mastering work and on top of that try to make it groove and fresh
