I have just been making some kick and bass, yes I am a newbie
At the moment I bounce to disk to see the waveform and check to see the length of the kick and bass notes to make sure they are not too long. Is there a plug-in that you can use that will draw the waveform on the fly? |

smartelectronix will do it true
please use your ears to make best sound listening wise then look to learn how it looks like , rather then to change the sound by the looks of it. mistake dont by many people , leading to tiny kicks specialy in higher bpms. weird how i strugle to thiner my music while still keep it good sounding.. too much fat is not healthy as well!

How does this work with synths that have not been bounced to disk? I know there is a waveform recalculation option. |

Depends how you made it or whether it is a sample etc.
Shortening the decay on the envelope will work if it is a synth. Though you may find that you need to alter other parameters if it is one of those kicks that pitches down as it decays.

Shortening of decay on the envelope works also if its sample.. You just do it on samplers envelopes and not on synth..
But bro, please, why again do u bring this confusion with these kick that pitches down as they decay..
Every kick is a wave that pitches down as it decays.. Thats basic principle of how u do kick.. U get sine waveform and modulate pitch so that it pitches down really fast.. Its been explained when u had talk with mandari, u puzzled me in that thread too and now u do it again.. I really dont understand what ur trying to say, is there really some special kick that pitch down on decay? What are u talking about? Please answer quickly cause I started to question my mental state..

Psy kicks have usually go down in pitch over time.
The BazzISM plug in is a good example.
If you have a kick like this that is a sample and you shorten the decay with a samplers envelope it may or may not effect the overall sound of the kick.
For example; in BazzISM you could set the envelope decay time to 100ms. But the pitch sweep time could be set to 90ms. That is the time it takes the kick to rest on its fundamental frequency. If you have a sample of a kick like this and you shorten the decay time with the samplers envelope to less than 90ms then the kick will no longer go down to the original frequency. This may mean you have to re-tune the kick and bass relationship in terms of frequency/pitch. |

the kick was a sample. I just tought that the tail coud be interfering with the bass

Tis very true, you have to remember music a listening activity, not a watching activity, so as long as it SOUNDS right, it IS right, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Projection makes perception. The world is what you gave it, nothing more than that. It is a witness to your state of mind, the outside picture of an inward condition. As a man thinketh, so does he perceive- Anonymous

I am with you on this Tsabi, I use redrawing sometimes to get rid of nasty pops and clicks or too much s in vocals but I would not recommend drawing a kick from it, after all who can draw a perfect circle?
As to the balance of thinning and phatness, it truly is delicate...
Becktrank, if the kick sample is too long and interferes with the bass, cut a little off
